The Games began in East Los Angeles, California East Los Angeles with more than 40,000 youths competing in Sport athletic and academic competitions . In the wake of the Los Angeles riots of 1992 LA riots in 1992 , Hernandez envisioned the Games expanding citywide and then nationally. Hernandez shared this vision with Arnold Schwarzenegger who agreed to be the Games Executive Commissioner. In 1995, the National Inner City Games Foundation was established.     Unreferenced date August 2010 Inner City Unit ICU is a United Kingdom British Punk rock Punk hard edged Space rock band fronted by ex Hawkwind founder Nik Turner on saxophone with Judge Trev Thoms guitar , Dead Fred Keyboard instrument keyboards , Nazar Ali Khan bass guitar Bass , and Mick Stupp or Dino Ferari on Drum kit drums . History Thoms & Ferrari were both key members of Steve Peregrin Took s band Steve Took s Horns. Took continued to work with his former band members by guesting with ICU at a couple of gigs. This original line up produced 2 albums, Passout and The Maximum Effect . A compilation of out takes and demos Punkadelic was released during the same time. In 1982 Turner returned to Hawkwind taking Dead Fred with him, this marked the end of ICU Mk1. In 1984 Nik Turner and Dead Fred were removed from Hawkwind and decided to reform ICU. Judge Trev and Stupp were unavailable for the making of the next album NewAnatomy so they recruited Steve Pond who had previously toured with ICU during the shows for the Passout album as Synthesizer synth player to play guitar and program the drum machine . Mick Stupp rejoined the band in time for the NewAnatomy live shows and was joined by another ex Hawkwind man Dave Anderson on Bass. The Black Lung Inner City Choir was formed in 2003 in Taichung Taiwan by Nick Fothergill, Pat Reid, and Brad Whitmore. They have since played over 300 live shows in Taiwan, Canada , and other parts of Asia . It has been 3 years since The Black Lung Inner City Choir released their debut album If I Leave For home . Discography If I Leave For Home. PNB Publishing , 2005. The album features one song sung by the band in Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese language Taiwanese . It also features collaboration with a singer from the Amis tribe who accompanies the band in her native language. She recites a love poem in her native language over the beginning of a track and then joins in the harmony for the rest of the tune. She also recorded an a cappella number in her native language for the album. The Memphis RBI program helps inner city children, gives them safe summer activity uniforms, equipment, daily lunches and Redbirds games. All these things and more are provided during the seven week long summer RBI program funded by the Memphis Redbirds Foundation . This program gives children living in troubled neighborhoods a fun and safe activity during the summer months. Since the program s inception in 1998, the number of children involved has grown to approximately 1,100, and there are now sites in virtually every corner of the Memphis, Tennessee area.
