    The Hon. Frederick Walpole 18 September 1822 1 April 1876 , was a British naval commander and Conservative Party UK Conservative politician. Background Walpole was a younger son of Horatio Walpole, 3rd Earl of Orford , and Mary, daughter of William Augustus Fawkener. Political career Walpole was returned to Parliament as one of two representatives for North Norfolk UK Parliament constituency Norfolk North in 1868, a seat he held until his death eight years later. He was also a Commander in the Royal Navy . Family Walpole married his second cousin Laura Sophia Frances, daughter of Francis Walpole, in 1852. They had several children, including Robert Walpole, who succeeded as fifth Earl of Orford in 1894. Walpole died in April 1876, aged 53. His wife survived him by 25 years and died in January 1901. He came of the younger branch of the family of the famous Whig prime minister, Robert Walpole , being descended from his brother, the Horatio Walpole, 1st Baron Walpole 1st Baron Walpole . He was the son of the latter s great grandson, Spencer Horatio Walpole 1807 1898 , three times home secretary under the Edward Smith Stanley, 14th Earl of Derby 14th Earl of Derby , and through his mother was grandson of Spencer Perceval , the Tory prime minister who was murdered in the British House of Commons House of Commons . Spencer Walpole was educated at Eton College Eton , and from 1858 to 1867 was a clerk in the War Office , then becoming an inspector of fisheries. In 1882 he was made Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man lieutenant governor of the Isle of Man , and from 1893 to 1899 he was secretary to the Post Office . In 1898 he was knight ed. Although well known as a most efficient public servant, and in private life as a well liked man, Walpole is chiefly remembered as an historian.     The Walpole Society , named after Horace Walpole , was formed in 1911 to promote the study of the history of British art . From 1762 on, Walpole had published the first history of art in Britain, based on the manuscript notebooks of George Vertue , the most important source of information concerning British art before the mid eighteenth century. One of the first goals of the Society was to publish these notebooks in their original form, which included much material that Walpole omitted. The Society publishes an annual volume of studies written by its members and scholars around the world.     Captain Brian Walpole Order of the British Empire OBE , FRAeS is a pilot who was the General Manager with responsibility for Concorde with British Airways . Walpole started his career in aviation by joining the RAF in 1952. In his four years service he served as an operational fighter squadron pilot, flying Meteors and was also a member of the Fighter Command formation acrobatic team, giving displays all over Europe. In 1956 he joined British Overseas Airways Corporation BOAC , which was later to merge with BEA and become British Airways. Initially as a First Officer on the Canadair North Star Argonaut fleet and later he was made the first training co pilot in BOAC and in 1971 he was promoted to command becoming Fleet Captain of the 707 Fleet in 1972. In 1975 he commanded the Boeing 707 aircraft used for the Royal Tour to the Far East which Her Majesty the Queen undertook and a year later he transferred to the Concorde Fleet. In 1977, he commanded the Concorde which flew the Queen from Barbados to London and the first supersonic commercial service from London to New York . His achievements were recognised in 1978 when he was awarded the Britannia Trophy, presented by HRH Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, for his work on the launch of the Concorde New York service. In 1982 he became the General Manager Concorde Division and was responsible for all aspects of British Airways Concorde operations, from marketing and advertising to control of the fleet s day to day operations.
