Biography Fritz Kurtz was born in Berlin and earned his doctorate from the University of Berlin in 1879. He relocated to C rdoba, Argentina , and in 1884, took over the chair of botany at the National University of C rdoba . Building on the performance studies and research begun under his predecessor, Dr. Paul Lorentz , Kurts expanded the school s collections and published key works in the study of botany and paleobotany in Argentina. He directed the university s Museum of Botany and was an active member of the National Academy of Sciences of C rdoba, initiating the exchange of research and material with similar institutions from around the world. His tenure at the Department of Botany influenced numerous younger Argentine naturalists, notably Eduardo Ladislao Holmberg and Juan Dom guez. Kurta retired from his post in 1915, and died in C rdoba in 1921. His private herbarium and library were acquired by the National University of C rdoba and were incorporated into the Museum of Botany. Benjamin Kurtz b. in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania , 28 February 1795 d. in Baltimore, Maryland , 29 December 1865. Kurtz was educated privately, and began his studies in Harrisburg Academy , and at the age of fifteen was an assistant teacher there. At the age of eighteen he began the study of theology at Lebanon, Pennsylvania , in 1815 he was licensed to preach, and immediately received a call as assistant to his uncle, John Daniel Kurtz, who was then pastor at Baltimore. He was then pastor at Hagerstown, Maryland for sixteen years, and from 1831 to 1833 at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania . Retiring from the active duties of the ministry in 1833, owing to failing health, he took charge of the Lutheran Observer , a post which he held for nearly thirty years. In 1838 he received the degree of D. D. from Washington College in Washington, Pennsylvania now Washington & Jefferson College , and in 1858 that of LL. D. from Wittenberg College , Springfield, Ohio . Kurtz was regarded as one of the most eloquent men of his time. He was a zealous advocate of revival s, and had very little sympathy with the confessional writing s of the Lutheran church. Eugene Allen Kurtz December 27, 1923 July 7, 2006 was an United States American composer of contemporary classical music . He received an M.A. in music from the Eastman School of Music in 1949. His instructors included Arthur Honegger , Darius Milhaud , and Max Deutsch . He served as a guest professor of composition at the University of Michigan , the Eastman School of Music , and several other universities. His notable students include John Burke composer John Burke , Roger Briggs and Robert Morris composer Robert Morris . His best known composition is The Last Contrabass in Las Vegas 1974 , for double bass and female narrator, which was composed for Bertram Turetzky and his wife Nancy Turetzky, who have performed it frequently. Linda Kurtz is an United States American beauty queen and broadcast journalist from Dover, Delaware , who was crowned Miss Delaware in 2004. She went on to compete for the title of Miss America 2005 in Atlantic City where she was a Quality of Life Award Finalist. The pageant was ultimately won by Deidre Downs of Alabama . Kurtz was the last Miss Delaware to compete in Atlantic City.
