unreferenced date August 2010 Hindavi Swarajya which is translated as The Indian self rule was the resistance movement founded by the Chhatrapati Shivaji in 1644 against the oppressing & fanatic rule of Aurangzeb . Shivaji in his teen years took an oath at the Raireshwar temple a Shiva Temple in Western India near Pune by offering his blood to the Lord Shiva . He took the oath that he would strive to achieve Indian self rule by fighting the oppressing emperor Aurangzeb of the Moghul empire. It is important to note that he did not strive for a specifically Hindu state but rather Hindavi Indian or Hindusthani self rule in line with his secular ethos. Several of Shivaji s commanders were of different region, religion & castes of India. The term of Hindavi Swarajya was later adopted by Bal Gangadhar Tilak , one of the early leaders of the Indian freedom movement against the British Empire.
