  1. Guide rail

unreferenced date March 2010 A Guide Rail is a system designed to guide vehicles back to the roadway and away from potentially hazardous situations. There is a legal distinction between a Guide rail and a Guard rail . Guide Rail Types There are several types of guide rail, which are engineered for use as a road side guide. Such systems include W beam, box beam, cable, and concrete barrier. Each system is intended to guide vehicles back onto the road as opposed to guard them from going off. Guide Rail vs Guardrail Guide rail is often mistaken for guardrail, but the official name was changed to guide rail because of a lawsuit. The parents of a child were suing a state because their child had gone through the guardrail and was killed. They claimed that the guardrail should have guarded their child from such an accident and were suing because the guardrail did not perform as its name suggested. When the expert witness took the stand it was clarified that the rails were intended to steer and guide vehicles back onto the road, they were never designed to guard vehicles from going off. Thus the correct name when referring to road side rails is guide rail. 1. Apple Guide

Image Appleguidecoachmark.png thumb 250px Apple Guide, with a coachmark Apple Guide was Apple Computer s online help and documentation system, added to the Mac OS in System 7 Macintosh System 7.5 and intended to work alongside Balloon Help . In addition to hypertext , indexing and searching of the text, Apple Guide also offered a system for teaching users how to accomplish tasks in an interactive manner. However, the process of creating guides was more complicated than non interactive help and few developers took full advantage of its power. Apple enhanced the help system with HTML based help in Mac OS 8.5 which worked in conjunction with Apple Guide providing links to Apple Guide sequences. Apple Guide was not carried over into Mac OS X , which uses an HTML based help system. Apple Guide made use of the AppleEvent Object Model AEOM , allowing the system to examine the state of the application as it ran, and change the help in response. Help content was created in individual steps, and each step could have assigned to it conditions to determine if the step should be skipped, or if the step was needed. For instance, if the user had already completed several steps of an operation and needed help to complete it, Apple Guide could see where they were, and skip forward to the proper section of the documentation. Additionally AEOM allowed Apple Guide to drive the interface, completing tasks for the user if they clicked on the Do it for me buttons or hypertext . A distinctive feature of the system was support for Coaching . Using the AEOM, AppleGuide could find UI elements on the screen, and circle them using a red marker effect to draw the user s eye to it. Apple Guide was also somewhat integrated with Balloon Help , optionally adding hypertext to balloons that would open the right portion of the documentation based on what object the user was currently pointing at with the mouse. There are several perceived advantages to using a horse rather than a dog. Miniature horses, with an average lifespan of thirty years, live much longer than dogs, and for those allergic to or frightened of dogs, a horse could make a good alternative. However, while a dog can adapt to many different home situations, a horse must live outdoors, requiring a shelter and room to move about when not on duty. Also, though they can be trained to relieve themselves on command, the period of time a horse can actually wait is significantly shorter than a dog s. Citation needed date December 2009 Guide horse users may also find difficulty in transporting a miniature horse on limited spaced public transportation, such as on buses or taxis.
