  1. PHP accelerator

A PHP accelerator is a PHP extension computing extension designed to improve the performance of software applications written in the PHP programming language . Operation Most PHP accelerators work by Cache caching the compiled bytecode of PHP scripts to avoid the overhead of parsing and compiling source code on each request some or all of which may never even be executed . To further improve performance, the cached code is stored in shared memory and directly executed from there, minimizing the amount of slow disk reads and memory copying at runtime. Practical benefits PHP accelerators can substantially increase the speed of PHP applications. Improvements of web page generation throughput by factors of 2 to 7 have been observed ref cite web title PHP on Windows The WinCache 1.0 Benchmark url http techportal.ibuildings.com 2009 11 19 php on windows the wincache 1 0 benchmark accessdate 2 September 2010 ref ref cite web title Benchmarking Drupal with PHP op code caches APC, eAccelerator and XCache compared url http 2bits.com articles benchmarking drupal with php op code caches apc eaccelerator and xcache compared.html accessdate 2 September 2010 ref ref cite web title Performance of Yii url http www.yiiframework.com performance accessdate 2 September 2010 ref . 50 times faster for compute intensive analysis programs ref cite web title PHP performance url http petermoulding.com php performance accessdate 4 December 2010 ref . The effect on application performance of opcode caching varies widely, depending on factors such as the inherent execution time of the PHP application and the percentage of source code actually executed on a given request, and whether additional optimization steps are performed. 1. Accelerator table

Unreferenced date December 2009 In Microsoft Windows Windows programming, an accelerator table allows an application to specify a list of accelerators keyboard shortcut s for menu items or other commands. For example, Ctrl S is often used as a shortcut to the File Save menu item, Ctrl O is a common shortcut to the File Open menu item, etc. An accelerator takes precedence over normal processing and can be a convenient way to program some event handling . Accelerator tables are usually located in the resource Windows resources section of the Portable Executable binary . Accelerators and menus Each accelerator is associated with a control ID, the same kind of IDs which are assigned to buttons, combo boxes, list boxes, and also menu items. In this way, GUI objects can be created which represent the same function as an accelerator. Since using the menus, and subsequently the mouse, is not always the best solution, it is important to provide users with the possibility to minimize usage of the mouse. For this reason showing the accelerators in menus can be useful it informs the user that there are shortcuts, and that using the mouse is not always mandatory. 1. EMMA (accelerator)

Image Emma loc.png right thumb The EMMA ring in relation to the main ERLP ALICE accelerator ALICE accelerator. The Electron Machine with Many Applications EMMA is a project at Daresbury Laboratory in the UK to build a linear non scaling FFAG to accelerate electron s from 10 to 20 MeV . A FFAG Fixed Field Alternating Gradient is a type of accelerator in which the magnetic field in the bending magnets is constant during acceleration. This means the particle beam will move radially outwards as its momentum increases. A linear non scaling FFAG is one in which a quantity known as the betatron tune is allowed to vary unchecked. In a conventional synchrotron such a variation would result in loss of the beam. However, in EMMA the beam will cross these resonances so rapidly that their effect should not be seen. EMMA will use the Energy Recovery Linac Prototype ERLP ALICE accelerator as a source of electrons and will be situated in the same laboratory at STFC s Daresbury site. EMMA is a proof of principle machine the experience gained in building this machine will be useful for future muon accelerators which are used in neutrino factories , and also for proton and carbon ion particle accelerator s, which have applications for cancer therapy. As a non scaling FFAG, EMMA will also be a good candidate for use in an Subcritical reactor Accelerator Driven Subcritical Reactor system in which a non critical fission core is driven to criticality by a small accelerator. Future electrical power generation could be influenced heavily by the use power stations consisting of a sub critical core containing a material such as thorium , and a small accelerator capable of providing extra neutrons via a spallation target. The accelerator effect in economics refers to a positive effect on private fixed investment of the growth of the market economy measured e.g. by a change in Gross National Product . Rising GNP an economic boom or prosperity implies that businesses in general see rising profits, increased sales and cash flow, and greater use of existing capacity. 1. Accelerator physics

Accelerator physics deals with the problems of building and operating particle accelerator s. The experiments conducted with particle accelerators are not regarded as part of accelerator physics . These belong according to the objectives of the experiments to particle physics , nuclear physics , condensed matter physics , materials physics , etc. as well as to other sciences and technical fields. The types of experiments done at a particular accelerator and or its other uses are largely constrained by the characteristics of the accelerator itself, such as energy per particle , types of particles, beam intensity, beam quality, etc. Accelerator physics itself is the study of the motion of the particle beam through the machine, control and manipulation of the beam, interaction with the machine itself, and measurements of the various parameters associated with particle beams. Equations of motion The motion of charged particles through an accelerator is controlled using applied electro magnetic fields, and the equations of motion may be derived from or, since in many cases a general solution is not possible, approximated from Theory of relativity relativistic Hamiltonian mechanics . Typically, a separate Hamiltonian is written down for each element e.g. for a single quadrupole magnet, or accelerating structure to allow the equations of motion to be solved for this one element. Once this has been done for each element encountered in the machine, the full trajectory of each particle may be calculated for the entire machine. In many cases a general solution of the full Hamiltonian is not possible, so it is necessary to make approximations. 1. Ram accelerator

A ram accelerator has the same function as a gun i.e., it is a device for accelerating projectiles however, it is entirely different in that jet engine like propulsion cycles utilizing ramjet and or scramjet combustion processes are used to accelerate a projectile to extremely high speeds. It is thought to be possible to achieve non rocket spacelaunch with this technology. It is a long tube barrel filled with a mixture of combustible gasses with a frangible diaphragm at either end to contain the gases. The projectile, which is shaped like a ram jet core, is fired by another means e.g., a light gas gun supersonically through the first diaphragm into the end of the tube. It then burns the gases as fuel, accelerating down the tube under jet propulsion. Other physics come into play at higher velocities. Description In a normal ramjet, air is compressed between a spike shaped centerbody and an outer cowling, fuel is added and burned, and high speed exhaust gases are expanded supersonically out the nozzle to generate thrust. In a ram accelerator, a projectile having a shape similar to the ramjet centerbody is fired, often from a conventional gun , into the accelerator barrel, causing compression ... air mixture. A Fixed Field Alternating Gradient accelerator FFAG is a type of circular particle accelerator being developed for potential applications in physics, medicine, national security, and energy production, that has features of cyclotron s and synchrotron s. ref cite journal author Daniel Clery date 4 January 2010 title The Next Big Beam? journal Science journal Science volume 327 pages 142 143 doi 10.1126 science.327.5962.142 ref FFAG accelerators combine the cyclotron s advantage of continuous, unpulsed operation, with the synchrotron s relatively inexpensive small magnet ring, of narrow bore. This is achieved by using magnets with strong focusing alternating gradient quadrupole fields to confine the beam, accompanied by a dipole bending magnetic field which bends the beam to close the orbital ring. 1. KEKB (accelerator)

Coord 36 9 17 N 140 4 19 E display title KEKB is the name of a particle accelerator used in the Belle experiment to study CP violation . It is called a B factory for its copious production of B mesons which provide a golden mode to study and measure the CP violation due to its property of decaying into other lighter mesons. KEKB is basically an symmetry asymmetric electron positron collider , with electron s having the energy of 8 GeV and positron s having the energy of 3.5 GeV , giving 10.58 GeV centre of mass energy, which is equal to the mass of the Upsilon meson Upsilon 4S meson. There are basically two rings for accelerating electron s and positron s. The ring for electrons, having energy of 8 GeV, is called the high energy ring HER , while the ring for positrons, having energy of 3.5 GeV, is called low energy ring LER . The HER and LER are constructed side by side in the tunnel, which has been excavated already in the past for the former TRISTAN accelerator. TRISTAN was the first site to confirm vacuum polarization around an electron. ref cite journal last Levine first I. coauthors TOPAZ Collaboration title Measurement of the Electromagnetic Coupling at Large Momentum Transfer journal Physical Review Letters year 1997 volume 78 issue 3 pages 424 427 doi 10.1103 PhysRevLett.78.424 ref The circumference of each ring is 3016 m, having four straight sections. In the KEKB, there is only one interaction point in the Tsukuba area , where the Belle experiment is located. The other areas called Fuji , Nikko and Oho are currently not actively used by an experiment. The KEKB accelerator is located at the High Energy Accelerator Research Organisation KEK in Tsukuba , Ibaraki Prefecture , Japan . Since the energy of the electron s and positron s is asymmetric , the B meson pairs are created with a Lorentz boost factor of 0.425. KEKB s leading finite crossing angle interaction design provides its high luminosity. In the last upgrade, KEKB installed crab cavity crab cavities ...   more details
