The Cz stochowa Ghetto was a ghetto created by German Nazis in the Polish town of Cz stochowa . The official order for its creation was issued on April 9, 1941 by Stabshauptmann Richard Wendler . The ghetto occupied the eastern part of the city center and mostly coincided with the pre war Jewish quarter. In addition to Jews from Cz stochowa, Jews from nearby towns and villages Krzepice , Olsztyn , Mst w , Jan w , Przyr w as well as those dislocated from previously Polish areas incorporated into the Reich mostly from P ock and odz composed the ghetto s inhabitants. Although the exact number of people within the ghetto is hard to establish, at its beginning it probably had a population of around 40,000 and at its peak right before its liquidation 48,000. Most of the inhabitants of the ghetto were made to work as slave labor in the armaments industry, mainly in the old factory Mettalurgy located on Krotka Street, which had been taken over by the private German firm HASAG . The Nazis began liquidating the ghetto on September 22, 1942 the day after Yom Kippur and finished on the night of October 7. The action was carried out by German units together with Ukrainian and Latvian auxillieries, under the command of captain of the schupo , Paul Degenhardt . The Jews were told to assemble on Daszy ski square and subsequently, most 40,000 were transported to the Treblinka extermination camp . Those who survived the initial liquidation about 8,000 were put in the so called little ghetto . Here, however an underground Jewish organization developed, led by Adam Wolberg and Mordechaj Zylberberg . When the Germans moved to liquidate the population of the little ghetto as well, this organization launched an uprising the Cz stochowa Ghetto Uprising . ref name Lubling cite book last Lubling ... books.google.com books?id IIXrf3m2BKoC&pg PA41&dq 22Czestochowa Ghetto 22&hl en&ei KinGTLvYN8H98AbHzMAk ... coord 50.8125 N 19.12730 E scale 10000 display title DEFAULTSORT Czestochowa Ghetto Category Jewish ... more details
