Improve date March 2011 The FriedrichEngels Guards Regiment also known as NVA Guard Regiment 1 was a special guard unit of the East German National People s Army . The regiment was named after FriedrichEngels . Mission It served representative purposes and for surveillance of various objects in NVA East Berlin, including the City headquarters, the office of the Ministry of National Defence East Germany Ministry of National Defense of the GDR in East Berlin and the terrain of management education, the military intelligence service of the GDR in Berlin K penick . The guard regiment headquarters was with the patrol commander of the town in FriedrichEngels Kaserne at Kupfergraben stationed in Berlin. It had seven companies, most of which were made up of conscripts. Three companies were honor guard companies for the protocol service, the honor guard at the Memorial to the Victims of Fascism and Militarism in the Neue Wache and the Great Held weekly on Wednesday at 14 30 was the Guards Parade. Four companies were guard companies, one of which consisted of reservists. In April 1963, he drove a stolen tank into the Berlin Wall in an attempt to escape into West Berlin . Although the tank did not fully penetrate the wall, he managed to climb the rubble to the barbed wire from which he was pulled to safety. In 1998, he won the Concerto Gold Medal at the Calgary International Organ Competition, an event which helped earn him significant name recognition in the organ world. Production history In 1916 the Russian government expressed a need for a flying counter float plane against the German Albatros W 4 . Y.E. Engels came up with the Engels MI, and after initial testing an order for 50 was placen on 27 April 1917. Only three were produced by October 1917, and as a result production quietly stopped.
