  1. Framing error

Framing error can refer to the following Generally, a framing error is the result of starting to read a sequence of data at the wrong point. In serial communications , a framing error is the result of reading a string of symbols which are grouped in blocks at the wrong starting point. The symbols are bits and the blocks are bytes, ten bits in asynchronous transmission and eight in synchronous. A framing error in an asynchronous stream usually recovers quickly, but a framing error in a synchronous stream produces gibberish at the end of the packet. Framing errors can be detected with parity bit s. In genetics , a frameshift mutation framing error also called a frameshift or a frameshift mutation is a mutation that inserts or deletes a single nucleotide from a DNA sequence. Due to the triplet nature of gene expression , the insertion deletion can disrupt the grouping of the codons, resulting in a completely different translation from the original. disambig ...   more details

  1. Color framing

Unreferenced date March 2007 In video engineering , color framing refers to the color frame sequence of field video field s in a composite video signal through which the video frame timing and chrominance subcarrier signal timing in particular, that of the color burst cycle through all possible phase relationships. The exact nature of the color frame sequence depends on the video standard being used. In the case of the three main composite video standards, PAL video has an 8 field 4 frame color frame sequence, and NTSC and SECAM both have 4 field 2 frame color frame sequences. Preserving the color framing sequence of video across edits and between channels in video effects was an important issue in early analog composite videotape editing systems, as cuts between different color sequences would cause jumps in subcarrier phase, and mixing two signals of different field dominance would result in color artifacts on the part of the signal that was not in sync with the output color frame sequence. To help prevent these problems, SMPTE time code contains a color framing bit, which can be used to indicate that the video material the timecode refers to follows a standard convention regarding the synchronization of video time code and the color framing sequence. If the color framing bit was set in both types of material, the editing system could then always ensure that color framing was preserved by constraining edit decisions between input sources to keep the correct relationship between the timecode sequences, and hence the color framing sequences. Color framing has become largely an issue of historical interest, first with the advent in the 1980s of digital composite video timebase corrector s and frame store s, which could regenerate the color frame sequence of a composite signal ... subcarrier phase is no longer relevant. 1. Framing hammer

Unreferenced date December 2009 Image Framing hammer.jpg thumb right 250px 22 ounce wooden handled framing hammer with milled head and straight claw Framing hammers , used for Platform framing framing wooden houses, are heavy duty rip hammer s with a straight claw. The hammer heads typically weigh from 20 to 32 ounce s 567 to 907 gram s for steel heads, and 12 to 16 ounce s 340 to 454 gram s for titanium heads. Heavy heads, longer handles and milled faces allow for driving large Nail engineering nails quickly into dimensional lumber . Typically the head will be made of steel and the handle of wood . Light weight titanium heads with longer handles allow for increased velocity, resulting in greater energy delivery, while decreasing arm fatigue and risk of carpal tunnel syndrome Citation needed date July 2010 . The milled face of the head consists of a waffle like grid of small four sided pyramids. Nails typically used for framing have a grid of intersecting raised metal lines on the head of the nail. The raised marks on the head of the hammer grip this grid, which helps to prevent the hammer from sliding off the nail head when striking a nail. Since the frame typically will not be seen on the finished house, the inevitable marring of wood surfaces by the milled hammer face is not an issue. A hammer with a smooth striking surface is known as a finishing hammer and is used where marring of the wood is to be avoided for cosmetic reasons. 1. Verb framing

In linguistics , verb framing and satellite framing are typological descriptions of how verb phrases in different language s describe the path of motion or the manner of motion, respectively. Manner of motion refers to a type of distinct motion described by a particular verb, e.g., running, tumbling, sliding, walking, crawling, etc. Path of motion refers to the direction of the movement, e.g., movement into, out of, across, etc. These two concepts can be encoded in the verb as part of its root meaning, or in a separate particle associated to the verb a satellite . Languages are considered verb framed or satellite framed based on how the motion path is encoded. English language English verbs use Grammatical particle particles to show the path of motion run into , go out , fall down ref These particles into , out and down differ in usage from the same words employed as prepositions because they indicate direction of movement as an attribute of the motion, without specifying location together with the verb, they form a phrasal verb . When the same word is linked to a specified location e.g., run into the garden , go out of the house , fall down the hole , it is a preposition introducing a prepositional phrase. ref , and its verbs usually show manner of motion thus English is a satellite framed language. English verbs that counter this tendency are mostly Latin ate, such as exit , ascend , or enter . All Germanic languages are satellite framed languages. Accordingly, to go out is hinausgehen in German language German , uitgaan in Dutch language Dutch and g ut in Swedish language Swedish , wherein gehen gaan g are equivalents of to go , and hinaus uit ut are equivalents of out . In this manner, Germanic languages can form all kinds of compounds, even less manifest ones like German hinaustanzen to dance out and so on. On the other hand, all Romance language s are verb framed. Spanish language Spanish , for example, makes heavy use of verbs of motion like entrar , salir , subir ...   more details

Note The multiplexing function is performed in the D 4 framing structure by interleaving bits of consecutive bytes as they are presented from individual circuits into each D 4 frame telecommunications frame . Within Telecommunications operations, a D4 Bank also refers to a type of multiplexer which mux s 24 DS0 signals into a single Digital Signal 1 DS1 . Source from Federal Standard 1037C Category Multiplexing compu network stub A minor correction from above, there is no actual D4 framing format. The D4 Framing format that is referenced above is actually more of a marketable term, adopted by techno Jargon to simplify what is actually called Superframe Framing Format, an embedded 12 bit framing code. The D4 is as stated above a 48 channel dual 24 channel channel bank chassis, which can multiplex two banks of 24 DS0 channels into 2 T1 s or a single T1C. The Superfame Format was originally introduced with the D2 Channel Bank. The D2 Channel bank was a 96 channel based chassis which could provide four 24 channel T1s, two T1C s or a DS2. The T1 Extended Superframe ESF Format a 24 bit code composed of 6 framing bits, 6 CRC Error Checking Bits and 12 Signaling Bits was introduced with the D5 Channel Bank, a true 24 channel channel bank chassis, which could also be software optioned to use the Superframe framing format. 1. Generic Framing Procedure

Unreferenced date December 2009 Generic Framing Procedure GFP is a multiplexing technique defined by ITU T G.7041. This allows mapping of variable length, higher layer client signals over a circuit switched transport network like Optical Transport Network OTN , Synchronous Digital Hierarchy SDH SONET or Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy PDH . The client signals can be protocol data unit PDU oriented like Internet Protocol IP Point to Point Protocol PPP or Ethernet Media Access Control or can be block code oriented like fibre channel . There are two modes of GFP Generic Framing Procedure Framed GFP F and Generic Framing Procedure Transparent GFP T GFP F maps each client frame into a single GFP frame.GFP F is used where the client signal is framed or packetized by the client protocol. GFP T , on the other hand, allows mapping of multiple 8B 10B encoding 8B 10B block coded client data streams into an efficient 64B 65B encoding 64B 65B block code for transport within a GFP frame. GFP utilizes a length CRC based framing HEC based frame delineation mechanism that is more robust than that used by High Level Data Link Control HDLC , which is single octet flag based. There are two types of GFP frames a GFP client frame and a GFP control frame. A GFP client frame can be further classified as either a client data frame or a client management frame. The former is used to transport client data, while the latter is used to transport point to point management information like loss of signal, etc. Client management frames can be differentiated from the client data frames based on the payload type indicator. The GFP control frame currently consists only of a core header field with no payload area. This frame is used to compensate for the gaps between the client signal where the transport ... 1. Application layer framing

expert subject Computing date June 2009 orphan date June 2009 Application Layer Framing ALF is a method allowing an application software application to use its semantics for the design of its network protocol s. This procedure was first proposed by D. D. Clark and D. L. Tennenhouse. ref Clark, D. D. and Tennenhouse, D. L. 1990 . Architectural considerations for a new generation of protocols. In ACM SIGCOMM Computer Communication Review archive Volume 20, Issue 4 September 1990 , Pages 200 208, ISSN 0146 4833. http portal.acm.org citation.cfm?id 99553 ref It works as follows The application splits the data into useful segments. These segments are called ADUs application data units . The ADUs can be processed in any order. The lower layers keep the ADU borders. This procedure simplifies among others the quality of service negotiation and allows a simpler way of error checking .
