It usually results in paper prototypes paper or video prototype s, or more likely nowadays computer simulation computer model s that are as convincing as possible to those that know the relevant science, given the lack of experimental confirmation. In the election politics of the United States , an exploratory committee is an organization established to help determine whether a potential candidate should run for an elected office. He wrote blockquote p The exploratory committee has been around for decades, and technically it creates a legal shell for a candidate who expects to spend more than 5,000 while contemplating an actual run. Under the rules, exploratory money may be raised without the full disclosure of sources required of true candidates. Only when the candidate drops the exploratory label does the full responsibility of transparency apply. p p Candidates use an exploratory committee as not only a transitional phase for their bookkeeping but as an extra claim on media attention. Some of the most skillful handlers like to leak word that their candidate is testing the waters, then leak word that he or she is thinking about forming an exploratory committee. Unreferenced date September 2010 Exploratory surgery is a diagnostic method used by doctors when trying to find a diagnosis for an ailment. It can be performed in both humans and animals, but it is far more common in animals. It is used most commonly to diagnose or locate cancer in humans, but it can be used for other ailments as well. The use of new technologies such as MRI s have made exploratory surgeries less frequent. Exploratory surgery and cancer Sometimes, cancer is located in a place where standard tests cannot detect it. In this case, doctors must go into surgery and look for the cancerous mass manually. This procedure, which is what is commonly associated with exploratory surgery, is not used for treatment at all. Citation needed date October 2009 Instead, it is used chiefly to identify the location of the tumor and the extent of its damage. If a tumor is found, a biopsy is performed and tests are run to see what type of cancer was found. Exploratory surgery is done when looking for a foreign body that may be lodged in the animal s body, when looking for cancer, or when looking for various other gastrointestinal problems. Dialectical research or dialectical inquiry or dialectical investigation is a form of qualitative research which utilizes the method of dialectic , aiming to discover truth through examining and interrogating competing ideas, perspectives or arguments. Dialectical research can be seen as a form of exploratoryresearch , in that there is not so much a research hypothesis to be tested, but rather new understandings to be developed. Dialectical research may also be thought of as the opposite of empirical research , in that the researcher is working with arguments and ideas, rather than data. Indeed Bertell Ollman 1993 argues that all research is either dialectical or nondialectical. Dialectical research may be applied to a range of problems. For instance, Eli Berniker and David McNabb 2006 argue for the application of dialectical research for the study of organizational processes and James Page 2008 has used a dialectical research method to develop a philosophy of peace education.
