Cooke 1869 1938 was a member of the Illinois General Assembly 1902 1909 and a judge of the Illinois Supreme Court 1909 1918, serving as chief justice 1913 1914. Biography George A. Cooke was born in New Athens, Ohio in 1869. Both of Cooke s parents died when he was 11 years old, and he was sent to live in Mercer County, Illinois . He was educated at Knox College Illinois Knox College , graduating in 1892. Cooke was Admission to practice law admitted to the bar of Illinois in 1895 and established a law practice in Aledo, Illinois . In 1902, he was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives , representing the 33rd District. He served two terms. Upon the death of Justice Guy C. Scott of the Illinois Supreme Court in 1909, Cooke ran for and won election to the Fourth District of the Illinois Supreme Court. Cooke served out the remainder of Justice Scott s term and then won re election to a full term in 1912. He served as chief justice of the court for two consecutive terms in 1913 and 1914. In 1918, Cooke left the bench to become chief counsel of the Peoples Gas Light and Coke Company , a position he held for the next twenty years until his death. Cooke was married to Sarah Blee.     Mick Cooke born December 15, 1973 is the trumpet player of the Scotland Scottish indie band Belle & Sebastian . Besides trumpet, Cooke plays other brass instruments, including the French horn , and occasionally plays electric guitar and bass guitar bass live. Since the departure of Stuart David , the role of bass player in Belle & Sebastian is shared between Cooke and David s direct replacement Bobby Kildea who also plays lead guitar. Whilst he is known to sing at some concerts including a rendition of This Guy s In Love With You , the only official release with Cooke on lead vocals is The Monkeys Are Breaking Out of The Zoo on the charity compilation Colours Are Brighter spearheaded by Cooke himself. He is a founding member of the band, although he did not officially join until their The Boy With The Arab Strap third album he was prevented from doing so because his other band, Hardbody, was under contract with Sony . Cooke also plays in the ska band The Amphetameanies and recently appeared on the 2007 Idlewild album, Make Another World Cooke is said to have had an influence on other Scottish based bands, including Franz Ferdinand band Franz Ferdinand who incidentely were given a bass guitar by Mick, leading to the formation of the band , whose members appeared in Belle & Sebastian s enigmatic early promotional photographs. Nicholas Cooke February 3, 1717 September 14, 1782 was the List of Governors of Rhode Island first Governor of Rhode Island after it became a state of the United States of America, holding that office from November 1775 to May 1778. Cooke had been a sea captain and operated a distillery and a ropemaking business. He was a member of Beneficent Congregational Church from 1747 to his death. In 1768 and 1775, he was elected Deputy Governor of Rhode Island he became Governor in the latter year when Tory sympathizer Joseph Wanton left office.
