The board game of Czech draughts is played, as its name suggests, in the territory formerly occupied by the Czechoslovak Republic present day Czech Republic Czech and Slovak Republic Slovak Republics . It is governed by the Czech Draughts Federation. Rules The draughtsboard has eight ranks and eight files. Players each have twelve draughtsmen on opposite sides of the board, arranged on black squares only, in three rows. Men move one square diagonally forward, and can not capture their own pieces. Once a man has reached the rank of the board furthest from the player to which it belongs, it becomes a king. Kings move diagonally forward and back, any number of positions. Captures are mandatory in Czech draughts. Should a man be found neighbouring an opposing piece behind which is an empty position, the player is compelled to attain this empty position and remove the opposing man from the board. Should a player be able to capture either with a man or a king, he must do so with the king. Should a player be able to perform multiple captures, he has the choice of capturing one piece or the entire line he can not capture a partial line. If multiple captures are performed, the pieces are removed from the board en masse when the capture is concluded. A player who can not move, either because he has lost all of his pieces, or because no legal move remains, has lost. The game is a draw when it is theoretically impossible i.e. with perfect play to capture any of the opponent s pieces. A misere game, as with other competitions, is known, where the object is to lose all one s pieces. It is a two handed game played on a board consisting of sixty four squares, thirty two white and thirty two black. There are twenty four pieces twelve white and twelve black. The board is placed so that the rightmost square on both sides of the board is black. Gameplay White always moves first, and players alternate moving. Men move one square diagonally forward. Should they reach the file farthest from the player to which they belong, they become kings. This is denoted by placing another piece of the same colour on top of them or, if this is impossible, placing another piece of the other colour underneath them . Kings can move forward or back one square, again only diagonally. Capturing is mandatory in Italian draughts. Should a man be found neighbouring an opposing piece behind which is an empty position, the player is compelled to attain this empty position and remove the opposing man from the board. The huffing rule if a piece that must capture does not do so, the opponent may, at his option, take it before his own move was stricken from the official rules in 1934. Men may only capture diagonally forward, and can capture a maximum of three pieces in a row. Kings move, as well as capture, backwards also, they are immune to men they can only be captured by other kings. A player wins when he has succeeded in capturing all of his opponent s pieces, or if his opponent resigns. A draw occurs when neither player can theoretically take an opposing piece. Capturing A number of rules apply to captures in Italian draughts, whether by men or kings this tends to make Italian draughts a game where many mistakes can be made. Armenian draughts is a variant of draughts or checkers played in Armenia . Its rules are quite similar to Turkish draughts . Armenian draughts, however, allows diagonal movement, too. Players take turns with each making one move per turn. Pieces consist of men and kings. There are no kings in the setup position. On an 8x8 board, 16 men are lined up on each side in two rows, skipping the first and last row. So, from a player s point of view, the second and third row are filled with his own men, and the sixth and seventh row are filled with the opponent s men. A man can move forwards or sideways to an orthogonally adjacent field, if that field is empty. If there is an opposing piece on that field and the field behind the piece in direction of the movement is empty, the opposing piece can be captured by a jump, with the capturing piece going to said empty field. Additionally, pieces can move, but not capture, one square diagonally forward. There is no backward movement or capture for men. Upon ending a move on the last row, a man is promoted to king. Note that the extra movement and capture rights of a king do not yet apply to the man promoted in this move. Kings may move any number of fields orthogonally forwards, sideways, or backwards, capturing by jumping over a piece and landing in any field of an unbroken row or line of empty fields behind the piece captured. Additionally, kings may move, but not capture, over any number of diagonal fields. In other words, the king moves like a Chess Moves Chess queen . Capturing, however, is different. Multiple captures are allowed, even required where possible, for men and kings alike. If there are different ways of capture, the one which takes the most pieces no difference between kings and men is made is mandatory. If there are several ways of maximum capture possible, the player may choose. about the game Dama disambiguation File Turkish draughts.jpg thumb Turkish draughts also known as Dama is a variant of draughts checkers played in Turkey . On an 8x8 board, 16 men are lined up on each side, in two rows, skipping the furthest back. Men can move forward or sideways one square, capturing by means of a jump. When a man reaches the back row, he is promoted to a king at the end of the move. Kings may move any number of squares forwards or sideways, capturing by jumping over any piece and landing in any square within permissible path beyond said piece. Pieces are removed immediately upon capture. If a capture is possible, it must be done. If several ways of capturing are possible, the one that captures the most pieces must be chosen. No difference between king and man is made in capture, they count as one piece each. If there is more than one way to capture the maximally possible number of pieces, then the player may choose which to take. The game ends when a player has not any legal move left, either because all his pieces are captured or he is completely blocked. Then, his opponent has won the game. Unlike other Checkers variants, since enemy pieces are removed immediately upon capture as pieces are captured and removed from the board, it is possible to cross the same square previously occupied by a captured piece more than once empty the 2nd time and afterwards in the same capturing sequence. After each captured piece is removed from the board before the captor continues jumping its removal may open up additional captures previously impossible. Within a multicapture turning 180 degrees between two captures is illegal.
