lunar crater data latitude 60.9 N or S S longitude 12.1 E or W W diameter 48 × 54 km depth 2.9 km colong 13 eponym Lewis Morris Rutherfurd Lewis M. Rutherfurd Rutherfurd is a moon lunar impact crater located entirely within the southern rim of the much larger crater Clavius crater Clavius . The crater Porter lunar crater Porter is located to the north northeast of Rutherfurd, on the northeastern rim of Clavius. Rutherfurd forms the larger member in an arcing chain of craters of decreasing size that curves across the floor of Clavius. The craters in this chain do not appear to be the same age, so this formation is most likely random in nature. Rutherfurd is somewhat oval in shape, with the long axis oriented approximately in a north south direction. The northern outer wikt rampart rampart s have a series of radiating ridges on the floor of Clavius. The rim overlies the inner wall of Clavius, and thus the rim of Rutherfurd is higher above the surface along the north and west sides. The floor is irregular in shape, and there is a central peak somewhat offset to the northeast. The ejecta pattern, oblong shape, and location of the central peak indicate the original impact may have been at a low angle from the southeast. Satellite craters By convention these features are identified on lunar maps by placing the letter on the side of the crater mid point that is closest to Rutherfurd. class wikitable width 25 style background eeeeee Rutherfurd width 25 style background eeeeee Latitude width 25 style background eeeeee Longitude width 25 style background eeeeee Diameter align center A align center 62.2 S align center 11.9 W align center 10 km align center B align center 62.6 S align center 11.4 W align center 6 km align center C align center 62.5 S align center 10.7 W align center 14 km align center D align center 63.2 S align center 8.8 W align center 8 km align center E align center 62.8 S align center 8.3 W align center 9 km References Lunar crater references Category ... more details

The home of the observatory is maintained atop Pupin Hall on the main campus of Columbia University on the south side of West 120 Street just east of Broadway in Manhattan . The observatory includes a twelve inch 30 cm. refractor telescope built by the Alvan Clark firm in 1916 for the Czarist government of Russia. It was to be installed at a site to observe an upcoming solar eclipse in Russia. With unrestricted U boat warfare during World War I shipment was delayed until the war ended. The new Russian government headed by Lenin refused to pay for or accept the telescope, which sat in a crate in a warehouse until 1920, when Columbia bought it. The telescope has for many years been used almost entirely for student education. Also in the observatory is a three inch 7.5 cm transit instrument , used for educational purposes. Traditionally, the chair of the Columbia astronomy department has also carried the title of observatory director. coord 40.8100 73.9614 type landmark region US NY display title Category Astronomical observatories in New York Category Columbia University ... more details
