Summary Information Description It s not just about impermanence for me, although that is one aspect. I get a kick out of the fact that a certain percentage of my work is stapled up somewhere. And a lot of collectors go nuts when they see a bunch of my posters stapled to a wall. Every poster that I do, my approach is that I want it to look like a piece of art. I m very meticulous about everything I do even though a certain number of them are put up or tossed out. It s about trying to be true to what a rock poster is supposed to do, and yet do something that hasn t been done before. A rock poster has a few simple truths name of the band, show date, place, and time. Recently, I wanted to give dimension to a medium that has been traditionally flat. So how can I make a poster different? Cut it, scratch it, sculpt, cast, burn, rip melt, cook, weave, emboss. After all is said and done, I have stretched the medium to three dimensions while keeping the poster s simple truths. Image Silver enlaid salakot.jpg thumb left 150 px The salakot fit for a Gobernadorcillo and a cabeza de baranggay . The salakot is a traditional wide brimmed hat in the Philippines. It is usually made of either rattan or Phragmites reeds . It is one of the traditional hat worn by Filipinos besides the conical Asian hat which is worn widely in East Asia & other Southeast Asian countries. An ancient tradition recounts that the first Malay settlers in the archipelago purchased the valleys and plains of the Island of Panay in the Philippines from the native Aeta s in exchange of a golden salakot and a very long pearl necklace called manangyad , which touched the ground when worn by the wife of the Aeta chieftain. The salakot is a common symbol for Filipino identity. It is often portrayed as the hat worn by Juan de la Cruz , the symbol of the collective Filipino psyche equivalent to Uncle Sam of the Americans. The custom of embellishing this Filipino headgear developed as a practice during the Spanish Regime. Though normally worn by farmers, the wealthy and landed Christian Filipinos and mestizos especially the members of the Principal a , would also use the salakot, emboss this hat with silver, and sometimes hang silver coins and pendants around the headgear s brim. Many depictions of gobernadorcillo s and cabezas de barangay would portray these public functionaries during the colonial period wearing ornate salakots. It was not uncommon for this class to wear salakot made of more precious materials like tortoise shell and precious metals . ref Alfredo R. In genetics, an isochore is a large region of DNA greater than 3 Kilo base pair KB with a high degree uniformity in G C and C G collectively GC which tends to have more genes, higher local melting or Denaturation biochemistry denaturation temperatures, and different flexibility. Overall, isochores are largely homogeneous in GC content in contrast to the heterogeneity of the entire genome. There are five families of isochores ranging in overall GC content The L1 and L2 have a low GC content of 40 and have few genes The H1 has a GC content of 47 The H2 has a GC content of 52 The H3 has the highest GC content of 52 and has the highest density of genes. File Paprenjak biscuit.jpg right thumb 350px Paprenjak, the Croatian Peppery Biscuit Paprenjak are a traditional biscuit made in Croatia . This peculiar biscuit contains a unique mix of honey and black pepper . The main ingredients are sugar syrup or honey, butter or fat, eggs, nuts walnuts, hazelnuts , pepper and various spices clove, cinnamon, nutmeg . The Croatian author August Senoa featured the biscuit in his novel Goldsmith s gold published in 1871. Tradition The origins of paprenjak are unclear but they are known to have existed in the 16th century during the Renaissance. Traditionally, in older times, Croatian people made paprenjak throughout the year, and more lately it is a family tradition in many homes to make paprenjak for Christmas an event in which the whole family would come together, mothers and grandmothers to make the dough and children to stamp out the paprenjak shapes for Christmas. Paprenjak takes on many shapes, some as gingerbread men, stars, trees, and some use a wooden press to emboss a pattern on the biscuit. Paprenjak in Other Countries Peppery biscuits are scattered across Europe, but are particular sought after in Germanic and Scandinavian countries. It s understood that a Croatian family moved to Sweden taking their grandmother Teresa with them and her delicious recipe for pepper cookies, Paprenjak. Each country that has adopted Paprenjak have adjusted the recipe for their region s taste. Swedish biscuit called Pepparkakor contains orange flavours. The German biscuit Pfeffernusse contains aniseed , and the Icelandic biscuit called Pipark kur contains cardamom and paprika .
