The Institute for the History of Ancient Civilizations IHAC is a graduate research institute on ancient history, ancient languages, and achaeology at the Northeast Normal University in Changchun , China Jilin Province . The IHAC was the very first Chinese institute to establish chairs and academic research positions for Assyriology , Hittitology , Egyptology , and Western Classics Latin and Greek Philology . The Griffith Institute is an institution based in the Ashmolean Museum of the University of Oxford for the advancement of Egyptology as a discipline. The Griffith Institute is named after the eminent Egyptologist Francis Llewellyn Griffith , who bequeathed funds within his will for the foundation of the Institute. The Institute opened on 21 January 1939, with its own independent committee of management.
