  1. Anthony FitzClarence, 7th Earl of Munster

Anthony Charles FitzClarence, Earl of Munster 21 March 1926 30 December 2000 was the last Earl of Munster, Viscount FitzClarence and Baron Tewkesbury. Fitzclarence was the last of the FitzClarences, a line that began with William IV of the United Kingdom King William IV Duke of Clarence until his accession in 1830 and his mistress Mrs Jordan, the comic actress Dorothy Bland. The King s eldest son by Mrs Jordan, George FitzClarence, 1st Earl of Munster George FitzClarence , was created Earl of Munster in 1831. The arms of his descendant still bore the lion and unicorn of the Royal Family, but the seventh earl made his way in the world without trading on his lineage, working variously as a publican, a graphic designer on newspapers, and latterly as an expert on medieval stained glass. In 1983, he inherited the earldom on the death of his father Edward FitzClarence, 6th Earl of Munster. From then until the Government s expulsion of the hereditary peers in 1999, as part of the House of Lords Act , he was a regular attender at the House of Lords . For a short time he sat on the cross benches, but soon moved to the Conservative side of the House. A shy man, he spoke rarely there, content to be one of those silent peers that made the Lords, as Byron thought, so formidable an audience. Early ... 1. Flag of Munster

orphan date March 2010 Image Flag of Munster.png thumb 260px right The Flag of Munster Origin of the Flag For over four hundred years now the historic Province of Munster in Ireland has been heraldically symbolized by three golden antique crowns on an azure blue shield. While these arms are on record as appertaining to Munster as early as the sixteenth century, the motif, namely the antique Irish crown which inspired them, is without question considerably older. Significantly, from the point of view of finding an explanation for the origin of the arms of Munster, a crown of the type now known as antique Irish, delicately crafted in burnished metal and resting on a blue enamel surface, forms an integral element of a thirteenth century crozier head found near Cormac s Chapel on the Rock of Cashel , County Tipperary . This unique artifact of Gaelic Ireland can be viewed in the National Museum of Ireland , Kildare Street, Dublin . Cashel, County Tipperary Cashel , was from early Christian times through to the fifteenth century the seat of the Kings of Munster , many of whom exercised spiritual as well as temporal power over the southern province. In the case of the king bishops of Cashel, the placing of the antique crown on their crozier, as instanced above, can only be interpreted as a symbolic assertion of their right to the political sovereignty of Munster. When therefore, the sovereignty of Munster came to be expressed in heraldic format, small wonder that the antique crown in triplicate came to be used as the arms of the province. The three crowns represent Thomond Tuamhain , North Munster , County Desmond Desmond Deasumhain , South Munster , and Ormond Urumhain , East Munster . As to the tincture of the Munster shield, in Gaelic mythology and literature the sovereignty of Munster was personified in M r Muman a beautiful lady invariably dressed in deep blue robes, that is, so ... en&ct clnk&cd 6&gl ie Category Flags of Ireland Munster he nl Vlag van Munster ru ...   more details
