He created a very large Scrapbooking scrapbook in which he documented his life every 15 minutes from 1920 to 1983. A Dymaxion Deployment Unit DDU is a structure designed in 1940 by Buckminster Fuller consisting of a 20 foot circular hut constructed of corrugated steel looking much like a grain bin . The interior was insulated, finished with wallboard and port holes. The Army Signal Corps commissioned Fuller in 1942 to develop 200 units as quickly as possible. The units were manufactured by the Butler Manufacturing company and were deployed all around the world prior to the US entry into World War II. The cost of each unit at the time was 1,250. When the US entered World War II, a steel shortage ensued which resulted in the eventual cancellation of DDU production. At Fort Monmouth, New Jersey , a DDU resides prominently on the roof top of Meyer Center. Background The map was discovered in Soleto southern Italy by Belgium Belgian archaeologist Thierry van Compernolle of Montpellier University on August 21, 2003. The map itself dates back to 500 BC and contains letters derived from a Greek script . The languages expressed on the map are both Ancient Greek language Greek and Messapian language Messapian . Moreover, the Soleto Map describes the city of Taranto called Taras , as well as other cities of Salento such as Soleto, Santa Maria di Leuca Leuca , Ugento , and Otranto . The map went on public display in 2005 at the Archaeological National Museum of Taranto. Controversy Even though the Soleto Map is considered the oldest map in Western culture Western civilization , there are allegations that it is a forgery.
