Unreferenced date October 2010 notability Companies date October 2010 Martinizing DryCleaning is a drycleaning Franchising franchise founded in 1949. Martin Franchises, Inc. , the parent company, is the largest drycleaning franchise in the United States , with over 600 franchised stores worldwide. The family business family owned company is based in Loveland, Ohio . The concept of One Hour Martinizing was pioneered by a New York chemist named Henry Martin in 1949. At the time, drycleaning was done with flammable solvents, so the plants were located remotely from the storefronts. A customer would drop off their cleaning in town , the garments would travel to the production facility to be cleaned and pressed, then they would return to the store several days later for pick up. But, by using a non flammable solvent, the use of which was discovered by Mr. Martin, drycleaning plants could now be located much more conveniently, and the process could be carried out in a much more timely manner. The use of this non flammable solvent was adopted throughout the industry and revolutionized the business in that facilities could better serve their customers and provide much faster turn around on the orders, if need be. The black stains are also very likely to harbor a number of molds or fungi. Unlike algae, the fungi on our roofs lacks chlorophyll and are unable to manufacture food from raw materials. The algae must get nutrition from some form of organic matter. To thrive, they also require a warm, humid environment. Fungi normally begin their life cycle as an airborne spore that settles on roofs. The spores on the northern exposure of the roof stand a better chance of survival because that portion of the roof is the last part to dry after a rain or morning dew. This raises the humidity on the surface of the shingle, thus creating a perfect feeding and breeding ground. Refimprove date January 2008 Infrared cleaning is a technique used by some film scanner s and flatbed scanner s to reduce or remove the effect of dust and scratches upon the finished image scanning scan . It works by collecting an additional infrared channel from the scan at the same position and resolution as the three visible colour channels red, green, and blue . This infrared channel can be used to automatically remove the appearance of dust and scratches in the visible channels and replace them by inpainting . Approaches Scanners use three different techniques for doing this Nikon film scanners use four colored light emitting diodes which are pulsed on and off, one at a time. These LEDs are pulsed on and off at each scan position, the light is gathered by a linear array and then the CCD is moved to the next scan line. Minolta film scanners use a constant visible light source with a pulsed infrared light source. At each scan position, the scanner uses an RGB linear array to scan the film in RGB and RGB Infrared. This is as fast as the Nikon approach, since only one physical pass over the film needs to be done. Megasonic Cleaning is a type of acoustic cleaning , related to ultrasonic cleaning . It is a gentler cleaning mechanism, less likely to cause damage, and is used in wafer, medical implant, and industrial part cleaning. Similar to ultrasonic cleaning, megasonics utilizes a transducer , usually composed of piezoelectric crystal s to create megasonic energy. Megasonic energy is of a higher frequency 800 2000  kHz than typical ultrasonic cleaners 100  kHz . As a result, the cavitation that occurs is gentler and on a much smaller scale. Megasonics are currently used mainly in the silicon industry. Megasonics cleaning compared to ultrasonic cleaning The difference between ultrasonic cleaning and megasonics cleaning lies in the frequency that is used to generate the acoustic waves. Ultrasonic cleaning uses lower frequencies it produces random cavitation. Megasonics cleaning uses higher frequencies at 1000  kHz it produces controlled cavitation. An important distinction between the two methods is that the higher megasonic frequencies do not cause the violent cavitation effects found with ultrasonic frequencies. This significantly reduces or eliminates cavitation erosion and the likelihood of surface damage to the product being cleaned. Parts that would be damaged by ultrasonic frequencies or cavitation effects can often be cleaned without damage in a megasonic bath using the same solution. With ultrasonics, cavitation occurs throughout the tank, and all sides of submerged parts are cleaned. With megasonics, only the side of the part that is facing the transducer s is cleaned. Alkaline Alkaline washing agents contains strong base chemistry bases like sodium hydroxide and or potassium hydroxide . The alkali dissolves fat grease , oils , fats and protein based deposits. Often there are added dispersing agent s to prevent redeposition of dissolved dirt and or chelants to attack rust on metal parts. Neutral Neutral washing agents are pH neutral and based on non ionic surfactants that disperses different types of dirt. Degreaser Cleaning agents specially made for removal of grease are called degreasers. These may be solvent based or solvent containing and may also have surfactants as active ingredients. The solvents have a dissolving action on grease and similar dirt. The solvent containing degreaser may have an alkaline washing agent added to a solvent to promote further degreasing. Degreasing agents may also be made solvent free based on alkaline chemicals and or surfactants.
