for the 1936 film Drift Fence Drift fences were used in the Texas Panhandle from 1882 to 1887 to control cattle drift the winter migration of livestock to warmer territory. Long sections of barbed wire fence were built by ranchers to keep the cattle from moving to the southern part of the state. This fence was disastrous for the animals during the Winter of 1886 1887 winter of 1886 87 . Deep snow covered the grasslands, and the fence prevented the herds from migrating to greener pastures. As a result, the cattle froze to death along the fences. Some 75 percent perished during the winter. The drift fence in Texas was built to hold back cattle from Oklahoma , Colorado , and Kansas from crossing into the state during blizzard s. It was strung along the northern boundary of each ranch. The fence extended for two hundred miles in Texas, with a gate every three miles. As a result of the 1887 blizzard, Texas in 1889 passed a law prohibiting fencing of public property. Drift diving requires Diver training specialized training and certification to be done safely and properly. Many dive agencies with Open Water Scuba Instructors offer drift diving training as part of their Advanced Open Water Diver training, and it is one of the specialties available therein. Drift diving requires more rigorous planning to be executed safely. In contrast to normal diving, drift diving is generally not planned to coincide with slack water . It is important to consider the direction of Tide Current tidal streams as well as their strength to avoid divers being swept into dangerous areas such as shipping lanes . It is also important to plan for the danger of separation, either underwater or at the surface. Each diver should carry an appropriate signaling device and compass. The gently rolling hills and shallow lakes were formed by Glaciation glacial action , while the Badlands are characterized by the lack of this action, and the Red River Valley was a former lake bed. This distinction causes the area considered as Drift Prairie to overlap somewhat with the Missouri Plateau , another of North Dakota s distinct geographic regions, but the Drift Prairie also includes the Souris River basin. Prairie grasses and wheat grow there making it a perfect place for ranchers. The prairie is filled with drift. Drift is soil consisting of clay, sand, and gravel. It is influenced by many factors, most notably the ambient temperature, Dehydration Avoiding dehydration hydration and the amount of muscle tissue activated during exercise. To promote cooling, blood flow to the skin is increased, resulting in a shift in fluids from blood plasma to the skin tissue. This results in a decrease in pulmonary arterial pressure and reduced stroke volume in the heart. To maintain cardiac output at reduced pressure, the heart rate must be increased.
