A draw play , or simply draw for short, is a type of American football play. The draw appears to be a passing play, but is actually a running play in this way, it can be considered the opposite of the play action pass . The idea behind a draw play is to attack aggressive, pass rushing defenses by drawing them downfield, leaving more open space to run the ball. Draw plays are often run out of the shotgun formation , but can also be run when the quarterback is under center. These types of draw plays are sometimes referred to as delayed handoffs . The running back will most often run straight upfield in the A Gap the space between the center and offensive guard , although there are more complicated versions. Offensive movement during a draw play The quarterback drops back to pass, just long enough to get the pass rush to come upfield. The offensive linemen momentarily show pass block, but also try to push the defenders to the outside, creating a crease in the middle. The running back momentarily fakes as if he s staying in to help pass protect, then takes the hand off from the quarterback and heads downfield through the crease created by the linemen. The receivers run clear out routes downfield in order to take the defensive backs out of the play. It was available free of charge for academic and personal use. It acted as a front end to ISIS Base, a chemical database program from the same company, as well as some other ISIS Integrated Scientific Information System products. The first version of the program was released in 1990, and the last version was 2.5 it has since been superseded by Symyx Technologies Symyx Draw . ISIS Draw used its own proprietary file format, with the extension .skc, and also supported standard chemical file format s such as MDL molfile , Rxnfile, and TGfile. Because of its role as a database query preparation program, ISIS Draw supported a variety of special atom and bond types used for substructure search ing, such as wildcard atoms, aromatic bonds, and ring bonds, as well as atom mapping, required for reaction searches. While ISIS Draw was mainly a 2D drawing program, it had some 3D rotation features and could interface with Rasmol for 3D visualization and rendering. Unreferenced date December 2007 Cavalry draw is a method used to extract a pistol from a holster , which is designed to carry the pistol butt forward. The name and technique come from the gunleather used by the cavalry of both the United States Army and the Confederate States Army , during the American Civil War Civil War . The pistol was in a covered holster carried high on the cavalryman s right side, but was placed butt forward for crossdrawing by the left hand. The pistol was considered by the Army to be a secondary weapon, with the right hand used for the saber. Placement on the right permitted an alternate method to be used, allowing the right hand to draw the pistol if the sword were lost in battle. In practice, however, the alternate method became the standard, with the sword being left in its sheath until the pistol and its spare loaded cylinders had been expended. Later, it was found that the reversed holster can be more comfortable, especially when worn while sitting down, than the normal type holster. In addition, cavalry draw can be performed while sitting, as well as retaining the original off hand crossdraw capability. For these reasons, the Federal Bureau of Investigation FBI used the cavalry draw when they were equipped with short .38 Special revolvers. Cavalry draw is performed in three steps Rotate the wrist, placing the top of the hand toward the shooter s body. Slip the hand between the body and the butt of the pistol, grasping the pistol s stocks in normal shooting grip.
