He was a professor at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and served as Dean of the university s College of Fine Arts from 1942 to 1957. In addition, he was responsible for establishing the University of New Mexico Symphony. Robb studied composition with Horatio Parker , Darius Milhaud , Roy Harris , Paul Hindemith , and Nadia Boulanger . He composed a large body of music, including two operas, symphonic and chamber music, and electronic music. His orchestral works have been conducted by Maurice Abravanel and Leonard Slatkin .     John Donald Wade September 28, 1892 October 9, 1963 was an United States American biographer, author, essayist, and teacher. Biography Wade was born in Marshallville, Georgia . His father was a country doctor. Wade was descended from the first Governor of Georgia . Wade received his Bachelor s degree from the University of Georgia in 1914 and a Master s degree from Harvard University in 1915. He completed his Doctorate at Columbia University in 1924. He served in World War I and served as a teacher at the University of Georgia between 1919 and 1926 where he was a key founder of the graduate program in American literature . He developed an interest in biography and published Augustus Baldwin Longstreet A Study in the Development of Culture in the South in 1925 and published a biography of Methodist Church leader John Wesley in 1930. His research for his Wesley biography was financed by a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Guggenheim grant and took him to England to gather information. Wade researched and wrote 116 biographical sketches for the Dictionary of American Biography and served as an assistant editor for that work in 1927 and 1928. By 1930 Wade was teaching at Vanderbilt University as a member of the English faculty and became involved with the Southern Agrarians . Wade is probably best remembered for his contribution to the agrarianism Agrarian manifesto I ll Take My Stand , which was published that year. He accompanied Charles George Gordon General Gordon to Khartoum in 1884 as his assistant. He died in September 1884 attempting to run the blockade from the besieged city at the hands of the Manasir tribesmen and followers of Muhammad Ahmad Muhammad Ahmad Al Mahdi . Biographical detail Stewart was appointed a cornet in the British 11th Hussars in 1865. In 1882 Lieutenant Colonel Stewart was instructed to prepare a report on the Sudan where Muhammad Ahmad Al Mahdi was defying the Egypt ian Government with success. After a journey to Khartoum and return to Egypt the Report on the Soudan 1883 was finished. He returned with Gordon to Khartoum in February 1884 and was wounded during the Siege of Khartoum siege . Stewart led an attempt to break the blockade aboard the Steamer Abbas in September 1884, along with the British consul Frank Le Poer Powers Frank Powers of The Times and other residents of Khartoum. The attempt failed when the Abbas ran aground somewhere between Abu Hamad and Mero . All passengers and crew were killed.
