History The band was started by Tharen real name unknown in 1998 shortly after his other band, Dargaard , released their debut. Dominion III also known as Dominion but this name is no longer used was his expression into heavier industrial music to express his feelings. As with Dargaard, it also features the vocals of Elisabeth Toriser. Tharen dubbed the music apocalyptic electronic music with their debut release The Hand and the Sword . The music was very expressive and heavy, and dealt with dark and angry themes. Tharen s music often displays traits of this, coming from a black metal background. The band was signed to Napalm Records as were Tharen s other musical projects. The second release came two years after The Hand and the Sword , titled Life Has Ended Here . The music displayed a more industrial edge and was far more guitar driven. This was because of the addition to the line up of J rg Lanz, who was in Tharen s black metal band Amestigon. The music continued to display an aggressive nature combined with sinister soundscapes. Tharen has spoken of moving Dominion III to another record label, one more centered around industrial music. The Dominion Textile Inc. or Domtex was a major Canadian textile manufacturer that was founded in 1905 and closed in 1998 when its remains were purchased by the American Polymer Group , at the time headed by Jerry Zucker businessman Jerry Zucker . The company was formed in 1905 from a merger of four major Canadian textile companies, and it quickly gained a near monopoly in the tariff protected Canadian market. Many of its products were once household names in Canada, such as the Wabasso bedding line, Caldwell towels, and Penman s underwear. Based in Montreal, it was one of Canada s leading companies and had close links to the government. Most of the company s production was based in small towns in Quebec and elsewhere across Canada, in most of these towns the mill was the primary employer. The company was much praised during the Great Depression for keeping employment levels high despite a collapse in prices. During the Second World War the company profited as a major supplier to the Allied war effort. In 1948 the economic situation changed dramatically as tariffs between western nations were greatly reduced, and Dominion Textile was exposed to strong competition from the United States and Britain. Dominion Textiles market share fell dramatically from nearly 100 of the Canadian market in 1947 to only 47 a decade later. The company almost collapsed, but eventually adapted to the new conditions. It was rebranded as Domtex and moved into new areas such as the production of polyester . The Dominion is published by the Dominion Newspaper Society, a non profit organization. Formed by a group of independent journalists in April 2003, The Dominion publishes a print edition and distributes a pdf version of the newspaper online. Dru Oja Jay is founding editor of the Dominion , and Hillary Lindsay is the paper s managing editor. Previous contributors include Jon Elmer, Yuill Herbert, Erin Steuter, Jen Pierce, Matthew Trafford, Rob Maguire, and Stewart Steinhauer. The staff is based in cities across Canada, with concentrations in Halifax, Montreal and Vancouver. A local edition of the newspaper was published for several months as a street newspaper in Ottawa by the Ottawa Panhandlers Union, but went on hiatus due to police harassment of homeless vendors of the newspaper and lack of funds. The newspaper bills itself as providing accurate, critical coverage that is accountable to its readers and the subjects it tackles and examining politics, culture and daily life with a view to understanding the exercise of power. In November 2006, the Dominion published 10,000 copies of its special issue on Canadian foreign policy, and organized discussions in Vancouver, Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax.
