Other uses Dominance disambiguation Dominance Refimprove auto yes date December 2009 Dominance in the context of biology and anthropology is the state of having high social status relative to one or more other individuals, who react submission submissively to dominant individuals. This enables the dominant individual to obtain access to resources such as food or access to potential mates, at the expense of the submissive individual, without active aggression. The opposite of dominance is Deference submissiveness . Dominance may be established by fighting, or merely by threatening displays or interchanges once established, however, dominance relationships may reduce the level of aggression between the individuals concerned. Dominance may be a purely dyadic relationship, in which case the fact that individual A is dominant over B has no implications for whether or not either of them is dominant over a third individual C. 1. Evolution of dominance

The evolution of dominance concerns the evolution of genetic dominance . The central argument, that modifier gene s act upon other genes to make them dominant or recessive, and that these are then themselves subject to natural selection was first proposed by the British population geneticist Ronald Fisher in 1928 ref Fisher, R.A. 1928. http digital.library.adelaide.edu.au coll special fisher 68.pdf The possible modification of the response of the wild type to recurrent mutations . Am. Nat., 62 115 126. ref , and expanded upon in his book The Genetical Theory of Natural Selection ref Fisher, R.A. 1930. The Genetical Theory of Natural Selection , Clarendon Press, Oxford ref . However, Sewall Wright and J.B.S. Haldane believed that the main explanation for dominance should be based on physiological factors, and that selection for modifiers was not a primary force. This led to a major fallout between Fisher and Wright. Subsequent works, particularly in molecular biology and biochemistry , have tended to favour Wright s view without completely excluding that the Fisherian argument may, in some circumstances, apply. There is often a geographic element to the competitive landscape. In defining market dominance, you must see to what extent a product, brand, or firm controls a product category in a given geographic area. Calculating There are several ways of calculating market dominance. The most direct is market share . This is the percentage of the total market serviced by a firm or brand. A declining scale of market shares is common in most industries that is, if the industry leader has say 50 share, the next largest might have 25 share, the next 12 share, the next 6 share, and all remaining firms combined might have 7 share. 1. Field dominance

In video engineering , field dominance refers to the choice of which field video field of an interlaced video composite video signal is chosen as the point at which video edit s occur. There are only two choices for field dominance in normal interlaced video odd or even. Interlacing divides the frame into two fields, scanning alternately the odd numbered lines and even numbered lines. Each field is scanned in 1 60th of a second actually 1 59.94 in drop frame color TV video under the 525 line system or 480i often referred to as NTSC or 1 50th of a second under the 625 line system or 576i often incorrectly referred to as the PAL system . Proper field dominance selection in linear editing systems will maintain color framing synch. A complete video frame in the 525 line system consists of an even line field followed by an odd line field. In the 625 line system, a complete video frame consists of an odd line field followed by an even line field. Most digital video formats including the DVD format store the even field of the complete frame first regardless of the field order of the actual material. Re editing old video material already edited with a different field dominance conventions can be problematic, as it can lead to flash fields when old and new edits are made too close together. 1. Estrogen dominance

Estrogen dominance is a theory about a metabolism metabolic state where the level of estrogen outweighs the level of progesterone in the body. This is said to be caused by a decrease in progesterone without a subsequent decrease in estrogen.
