Destination Tables are published periodically by Halsbury s Statutes and are a guide to the consolidation of legislation passed by the Parliament of the United Kingdom since 1957. The volume contains details of every consolidation Act relating to England and Wales passed since 1983 as well as details of earlier important consolidations. Separate Tables is the collective name of two one act plays written by Sir Terence Rattigan , both taking place in the Beauregard Private Hotel, Bournemouth , a seaside town on the south coast of England . The first play, entitled Table by the Window , focuses on the troubled relationship between a disgraced Labour politician and his ex wife. The second play, Table Number Seven , is set about eighteen months after the events of the previous play, and deals with the touching friendship between a repressed spinster and a retired English army officer, Major Pollock. The secondary characters permanent residents, the hotel s manager, and members of the staff appear in both plays. London premiere Separate Tables had its premiere at the St James s Theatre in London in September 1954. It was originally intended that the main roles should be played by Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh , who had scored quite a success with Rattigan s The Sleeping Prince play The Sleeping Prince . They asked Rattigan to postpone the production to fit in with their schedule, but the play could not wait. It opened instead with Margaret Leighton and Eric Portman in the leading roles. Before the existence of pocket calculator s, trigonometric tables were essential for navigation , science and engineering . The calculation of mathematical table s was an important area of study, which led to the development of the history of computing first mechanical computing devices . Modern computers and pocket calculators now generate trigonometric function values on demand, using special libraries of mathematical code. Often, these libraries use pre calculated tables internally, and compute the required value by using an appropriate interpolation method. Interpolation of simple look up tables of trigonometric functions is still used in computer graphics , where only modest accuracy may be required and speed is often paramount. Another important application of trigonometric tables and generation schemes is for fast Fourier transform FFT algorithms, where the same trigonometric function values called twiddle factors must be evaluated many times in a given transform, especially in the common case where many transforms of the same size are computed. In this case, calling generic library routines every time is unacceptably slow.
