  1. Dining rights

Dining rights are the right to use the dining facilities offered to the members and possibly their guests, when accompanied by a member of certain organisations such as universities, clubs, colleges and bodies such as the House of Lords , and the Hawks Club . They are typically offered to ex members of such institutions, alumni, or individuals who are in some way involved with furthering its aims, often in the spirit of honoris causa . Such rights can be highly sought after. As dining is considered a highly social process they permit diners to engage with like minded colleagues, members and their guests in a milieu that is less formal but may still contain certain formalities than that of the academic meeting, colloquium or seminar . Such rights do not usually permit the holder to take part in the management or the functions of the institution that has offered them. Such rights do not usually exempt the holder from any charges for using them, though they are extended to the holder on the same basis as the usual holders of such rights. However, restrictions will typically be placed upon their frequency of use. Holders are usually to be held responsible for both the bills incurred by themselves and their guests, and the behaviour of their guests during the exercise of such rights. Typically alumni of a college or university may be offered such rights, but only on payment of a fee, and after holding an appropriate academic degree , or after a number of years since graduation . 1. The Art of Dining

The Art Of Dining , a play written by Tina Howe in 1979, showcases the bizarre relationships three groups of characters have with food. The play is set in a New Jersey restaurant during November, newly opened by couple Ellen and Cal, who have everything riding on each night s cash flow. Both cooking and eating are included in the play which takes place on a stage. Characters Neurotic short story writer Elizabeth Barrow Colt Publisher David Osslow Couple Hannah and Paul Galt Friends Herrick Simmons, Nessa Vox and Tony Stassio Restaurant owners Ellen and Cal Themes The play explores themes which question the nature of dining the art of dining, as constructed by traditions of etiquette and social pressures and expectations surrounding the idea that one has to entertain during mealtimes, eat and maneuver utensils with precision, clarity, sophistication and grace all to impress whoever may be and usually is watching. Dining, generally speaking, is considered to be an event which brings people, both friends and family, together. It is thought of as a social time when events of the day are discussed though often, it is a time when darker things surface such as money problems . However, as shown in Tina Howe s play, the more gullible and weak minded people have greater potential to be affected by these pressures and expectations. Each of the characters in the play have been affected and, in a variety of ways, live with problems ranging from eating and body image disorders to personality and mental disorders. 1. The Dining Room

Unreferenced date February 2007 Cleanup date February 2008 The Dining Room is a play by the American playwright A. R. Gurney . It was first produced in New York, New York at the Studio Theatre of Playwrights Horizons, opening January 31, 1981. The play is a comedy of manners, set in a single dining room where 18 scenes from different households overlap and intertwine. Presumably, each story is focused around a different family during different time periods who has in their possession the same dining room furniture set, manufactured in 1898. The stories are about White Anglo Saxon Protestant WASP nuclear family families . Some scenes are about the furniture itself and the emotional attachment to it, while other scenes simply flesh out the culture of the WASPs. Overall, it tells the story of the dying and relatively short lived culture of middle class upper middle class Americans, and the transition into a much more efficient society with less emphasis on tradition and more emphasis on progress . Some characters are made fun of, as is the culture itself, but there is also a genuine longing for the sense of stability, comfort and togetherness that the culture provides. From the back of the playbook blockquote The play is set in the dining room of a typical well to do household, the place where the family assembled daily for breakfast and dinner and for any and all special occasions. The action is a mosaic of interrelated scenes some funny, some touching, some rueful which, taken together, create an in depth portrait of a vanishing species the upper middle class WASP. The actors change roles, personalities and ages with virtuoso skill as they portray a wide variety of characters, from little boys to stern grandfathers, and from giggling teenage girls to Irish people Irish housemaid s. Each vignette literature vignette introduces a new set of people and events a father lectures ..., and Frances Aronson the lighting. The production stage manager was M. A. Howard. Mergeto Dining cryptographers problem date March 2009 Mergefrom Dining cryptographers protocol Rewrite discuss Talk Dining cryptographers problem date November 2009 The dining cryptographers protocol is a method of Anonymity anonymous communication. It allows for any member of a group to multicast data to every other member of the group. Though the broadcast is public, the protocol guarantees that its sender remains anonymous. This protocol allows only for one member of the group to transmit data during any given round. The method is as follows three or more cryptographer s node networking nodes arrange themselves around a circular dinner table ring network , with menus link encryption encrypted links hiding the interaction of each pair of cryptographers. Each cryptographer secretly writes down a bit zero or one and shows it to every other cryptographer. Then, each cryptographer computes the xor s of their own number and each of the other cryptographers numbers. That is, if the bit the cryptographer is shown is the same as theirs the result is zero , and if they are different the result is one . Every cryptographer that does not want to send a message reports their result. The cryptographer that does want to send a message reports the opposite of their result. All cryptographers then add up the published numbers. If the sum is an even number, no one sent a message. If odd, a one bit message was sent. Sender anonymity holds because no person knows what comparison value another person reported. Therefore, no one knows who reported the opposite comparison value the sender.
