  1. Dead key

Unreferenced date May 2009 A dead key is a special kind of a modifier key on a typewriter or computer keyboard that is typically used to attach a specific diacritic to a base letter alphabet letter . The dead key does not generate a complete grapheme character by itself but modifies the character generated by the key struck immediately after. That way you do not need a dedicated key for each possible combination of a diacritic and a letter, but only one dead key for each diacritic, in addition to the normal base letter keys. For example, if a keyboard has a dead key for the grave accent , the French ... form can be generated with the dead key followed by space , so a plain grave accent can be typed by pressing code code and then code space code . Usage A dead key is different from a typical modifier key such as AltGr key AltGr or Option key Option in that, rather than being pressed and held while another key is struck, the dead key is pressed and released before striking the key to be modified. 1. The Promise Key

Wikisource The Promised Key The Promise Key is a Rastafari movement tract by Leonard Howell Leonard P. Howell , a Jamaica n preacher. Published around 1935 under Howell s Hindu pen name G.G. Maragh for Gong Guru , meaning teacher of famed wisdom , the tract bears some close similarities to an earlier 1926 writing by Fitz Balintine Pettersburg , the Royal Parchment Scroll of Black Supremacy , but omitting much of the stream of consciousness language, long opaque abbreviations, and repetition. Some lines of The Promise Key were taken verbatim from Royal Parchment Scroll for example, the slogan Gross beauty is the Queen in hell may be found in both works, as part of a general condemnation of western aesthetics. Most significantly, the identities of King Alpha and Queen Omega were transposed from Fitz Balintine Pettersburg and his wife, as in the Royal Parchment Scroll, to Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia Haile Selassie and Empress Menen Asfaw . This was one of the key innovations of the Howellites, and is today an article of faith of Rastafari. In 1933, Howell started to preach that Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia Ras Tafari was the Messiah, that Black people were the chosen people, and would soon be repatriated to Ethiopia. He soon attracted the attention of the colonial authorities, and was arrested in December 1934 for sedition. In March 1935 he was sentenced to two years imprisonment, when he apparently wrote The Promise Key. After he was released he published a newspaper called The People s Voice . In 1954, his commune was raided and much literature, including copies of this book, were burned. Howell was found dead under suspicious circumstances in February 1981. In cryptography , key size or key length is the size measured in bit s ref Password strength Human generated passwords Calculating Bit Strength ref of the key cryptography key used in a cryptographic algorithm such as a cipher . An algorithm s key length is distinct from its cryptographic security, which ... in bits. The security of an algorithm cannot exceed its key length since any algorithm can be cracked by brute force attack brute force , but it can be smaller. For example, Triple DES has a key size ... for an application. Most symmetric key algorithm s in common use are designed to have security equal to their key length. No asymmetric key algorithm s with this property are known elliptic curve cryptography comes the closest with an effective security of roughly half its key length.
