It can cause a supercell and then a tornado . A cumulonimbus incus is a sub form of cumulonimbus capillatus . Hazards A cumulonimbus incus is a mature thunderstorm cloud and can produce many dangerous elements. Lightning this storm cloud is capable of producing bursts of cloud to ground lightning. Hail small hail balls may fall from this cloud. Heavy rain the cloud may drop several inches of rain in a short amount of time. This could cause flash flood ing Strong wind gale force winds from a downburst may occur under this cloud. Classification This is a powerful cumulonimbus cloud. If the correct atmospheric conditions are met, they can grow into a supercell storm. This cloud may be a single cell storm or it may be one cell in a multi cell storm. They are capable of producing severe storm conditions for a short amount of time. gallery Image Anvil cumulus feb 2007.jpg Anvil Cumulonimbus incus, February 2007 Image Cumulonimbus incus cloud.jpg Cumulonimbus incus Image Cumulonimbus incus cloud Jan2008.jpg Cumulonimbus incus with little precipitation observed Image Cumulonimbus incus mykonos.jpg Single cell Cumulonimbus incus Mykonos Greece, June 2009 gallery ... Cumulonimbus calvus develops from cumulus congestus, and its further development under auspicious conditions will result in cumulonimbus capillatus . This cloud consists mainly of water droplets. By definition of cumulonimbus cloud , at its top water droplets are transformed into ice crystals, but for cumulonimbus calvus content of ice crystals is small and freezing is in early stage, so cloud top still looks round and puffy. Cumulonimbus calvus is characterized by distinctive between other types of cumulonimbus cloud rounded shape and relatively sharp edges of its top area, unlike cumulonimbus incus or cumulonimbus capillatus , which have cirriform tops. Image Cumulus pileus.jpg thumb right Pileus on a Cumulus cloud Cumulus cloud File Sarychev peak eruption.jpg thumb right Pileus forming over the ash cloud from the eruption of Sarychev Peak A pileus pron en pa l.i s , Latin for cap , also called scarf cloud or cap cloud , is a small, horizontal cloud that can appear above a cumulus cloud cumulus or cumulonimbus cloud , giving the parent cloud a characteristic hoodlike appearance. Pilei tend to change shape rapidly. Fact date December 2008 They are formed by strong updraft s acting upon moist air at lower altitudes, causing the air to cool to its dew point . As such, they are usually indicators of severe weather , and a pileus found atop a cumulus cloud often foreshadows transformation into a cumulonimbus cloud, as it indicates a strong updraft within the cloud. Clouds that are attached to pilei are often given the suffix pileus or with pileus . For example, a cumulonimbus cloud with a pileus attached to it would be called cumulonimbus with pileus . Pilei can also form above ash cloud s and pyrocumulus cloud s from volcanic eruption erupting volcano es see the image to the right . Pilei form above some mushroom cloud s of high nuclear weapon yield yield nuclear detonation s in that context they are called ice caps . Forecast Pilei clouds indicate that the parent cloud is growing rapidly, has plenty of moisture, and is highly unstable. This means that the parent cloud could quickly grow to become a cumulonimbus cloud and continue to grow into a cumulonimbus incus cloud. These clouds can cause severe weather and sightings of pelei should be viewed as a warning of an impending storm. Pilei also indicate strong and possibly damaging winds. 1. Maximum parcel level

The maximum parcel level MPL is the highest level in the Earth s atmosphere atmosphere that a moist convection convectively rising air parcel will reach after ascending through the free convective layer FCL and reaching the equilibrium level EL , near the tropopause . As the parcel rises through the FCL it expands adiabatically causing its temperature to drop, often below the temperature of its surroundings, and eventually lose buoyancy . Because of this, the EL is approximately the region where the distinct flat tops called anvil s often observed on cumulonimbus cloud s form. If the air parcel ascended quickly enough then it retains momentum after it has cooled and continues rising past EL, ceasing at the MPL visually represented by the overshooting top , above the anvil .
