  1. Cisco, Minnesota

Image MNMap doton Erskine.png right Location of Cisco, Minnesota Cisco is a place name for the remnants of a former unincorporated community located along the Soo Line Railroad and United States Highway 59 US 59 in the NW 1 4 of Section 11 of Badger Township, Minnesota Badger Township , 149 North, Range 42 West, in Polk County, Minnesota Polk County , United States , approximately four miles north of the city of Erskine, Minnesota Erskine , and about the same distance south of the city of Brooks, Minnesota Brooks . Cisco was still in use as a place name by local people as late as 1990, but now is but a dim memory among some of the old timers. History Beginning with the construction of the railroad in the late 19th century until the late 1940s, Cisco was a water station and rail siding on the Soo Line Railroad . At one time, Cisco boasted a grain elevator , a stockyard , a general store and a school District 146, commonly known as the Cisco School , in addition to the railroad facilities and several homes. After the demise of steam locomotion, the railroad no longer stopped in Cisco. By 1938, the elevator and stockyards had been torn down, the school had been consolidated and discontinued operations the physical building having been moved to Marcoux Corner, Minnesota Marcoux Corner , and the store had closed forever. By 1983, Cisco had shrunk to a couple of houses, both of which, like the town, are merely a memory in 2010. Taxobox name Longjaw cisco status EX status system IUCN2.3 extinct 1975 regnum Animal ia phylum Chordata classis Actinopterygii ordo Salmoniformes familia Salmonidae subfamilia Coregoninae genus Coregonus species C. alpenae binomial Coregonus alpenae binomial authority Walter Norman Koelz Koelz , 1924 The longjaw cisco Coregonus alpenae was a deep water Cisco fish cisco or chub , usually caught at depths of 100 metres or more from Lakes Lake Huron Huron , Lake Michigan Michigan , and Lake Erie Erie . Its Latin name was derived from Alpena, Michigan Alpena , a city in Michigan. Silver colored and growing to a maximum length of about 30 centimeters 12 inches long, the extinction of longjaw cisco was a result of overfishing , pollution of the Great Lakes and the disruption of Great Lakes food chains after the introduction of the sea lamprey . The systematics of the group of fishes called ciscoes is complicated and scientists now generally believe that the longjaw cisco was not a separate species, but a distinctive population of large bodied individuals of shortjaw cisco Coregonus zenithicus . The deepwater cisco fishery caught longjaw ciscoes and sold them as smoked herring . The commercial catch peaked around the 1930s when about one third of the catch of ciscoes was this species. No individuals have been reported in commercial fish catches since 1967, and in Ontario the last individual was recorded from Georgian Bay in 1975. 1. Cisco SSG-6510

Image Cisco SSG 6510 front.jpg thumb right The Cisco SSG 6510 was a device introduced by Cisco in 1998 that allows dynamic direction of IP traffic to various services. It was typically deployed at the edge of a service provider s network where users would connect, log in, and be directed to whatever service they were paying for. br The SSG 6510 runs a derivative of Wind River Systems , VxWorks , and included a utility to flash the BIOS chip in circuit. It was constructed using many of the same hardware components found in the Cisco PIX 510 520 and the LocalDirector 410 416 420 430, such as its chassis, Intel 440LX 440BX 440BX2 motherboard, Intel 82557 NIC s, and 2MB flash card. It comes with a Pentium II 300 or 450MHz CPU, 384MB of SDRAM , and 2MB of flash storage for the OS. As demonstrated by its hardware command, the version of VXWorks running on the SSG 6510 recognizes only Intel Pro 100 cards with the 82557 controller and the 82553 PHY chip. Intel Pro 100 cards with the 82557 controller and the 82555 PHY will work, but VXWorks doesn t properly identify the 82555. It has large, smooth scales and is iridescent silver, with a greenish back and white belly. The mouth is small and toothless, and the lower jaw is shorter than or equal in length to the upper jaw. It typically weighs approximately 300 g 11  oz , and ranges from 150 to greater than 300  mm 6 to 12  inches Ichthyology terms standard length . Very difficult to differentiate from other cisco species by superficial appearance, this species typically has fewer Ichthyology terms gillrakers than other ciscoes. Once common throughout the upper Laurentian Great Lakes it is no longer found in Lake Michigan and populations are much lower in Lake Huron than in the past. The population in Lake Superior is known to be lower than historically, based on commercial catch statistics. Its status in Lake Nipigon is uncertain. It has been reported in at least .... 1. Cisco WAAS

Cisco Wide Area Application Services WAAS is technology that optimizes the performance of TCP based applications operating in a Wide Area Network Wide Area Network WAN environment while preserving and strengthening branch security. WAAS combines WAN optimization , optimization of the Transport Control Protocol TCP , Data Redundancy Elimination DRE, also known as deduplication and application protocol acceleration in a single a network attached appliance or router integrated module form factor. The distributed ADS market was about 4 years old in 2004 when Cisco acquired Actona Technologies. The acquisition gave Cisco basic wide area file services WAFS techniques. Since then Cisco has been busy integrating the technology and making several extensions. Cisco calls the resulting software Wide Area Application Services WAAS . WAAS delivers a combination of TCP optimization, proxy services, and byte level and file caching. It runs on Wide Area Application Engine WAE hardware platforms, including standalone appliances and network modules NME for the Cisco Integrated Services Routers ISRs . These species have been the focus of much study recently, as researchers have sought to determine the relationships among species that appear to have evolved very recently. The five endemic cisco species of the Saint Lawrence River Laurentian Great Lakes North America Great Lakes , the kiyi , coregonus hoyi bloater , shortnose cisco , longjaw cisco and deepwater cisco , are believed to be of very recent evolutionary origin and are said to represent an incipient species flock by some authors. The debate about which were true species and which were not has been rendered academic by the fact that some have disappeared from the system and are apparently extinct. Several species belong to what various authors refer to as the Coregonus artedi complex , a group of closely related forms that appear to be derived from the Coregonus artedi lake herring or northern cisco C. artedi . The relationships among these forms remains unclear and have complicated discussion of the conservation status of some species.
