Treaty of Paris Unreferenced date January 2011 The Treaty of Paris of May 15, 1796 was a treaty between the French Republic and the Kingdom of Piedmont Sardinia during the War of the First Coalition . After four years of fighting, the French under Bonaparte had finally beaten the Piedmontese army in the Battle of Montenotte , and on April 21 1796 in the Battle of Mondovi . This forced King Victor Amadeus III of Sardinia to sign an armistice at Cherasco one week later, abandoning the First Coalition against the French Republic. In the following treaty King Victor Amadeus III recognized the French Republic, ceded the Savoy original Duchy of Savoy and the County of Nice to France and gave the French Army free passage through his territory towards the rest of Italy. The King died a few months after signing the treaty. The French interest in Savoy had already been demonstrated in 1792 when the revolutionaries had annexed these lands as the 84th French D partement under the name Mont Blanc department Mont Blanc . This had provoked the war with Piedmont Sardinia. Piedmont Sardinia never accepted these losses and in the Treaty of Paris 1814 they retrieved part of Savoy, and one year later in the Treaty of Paris 1815 , the rest of these territories. They would be regained by France under Napoleon III . Sebastiano Taricco 1645 1710 was an Italy Italian painter of the Baroque period. Taricco was born in Cherasco , a city of the Piedmont , while some claimed he studied along with Guido Reni and with Domenichino in the school of the Caracci , his lifespan indicates otherwise, and likely he was a follower of their styles or those of their followers, Carlo Francesco Nuvolone and Giovanni Peruzzini . History In the Middle Ages, the town of Pinerolo was one of the main crossroads in Italy, and was therefore one of the principal fortresses of the dukes of Savoy . Its military importance was the origin of the well known military school that still exists today. The fortress of Fenestrelle is nearby. The earliest mention of Pinerolo is in the tenth century, when it belonged to the March of Turin and was governed by the abbot nullius of Pinerolo who ran the abbey of Abbadia Alpina , even after the city had established itself as a municipality 1247 under the government of Thomas Savoy . From 1235, Amadeus IV of Savoy exercised over the town a kind of protectorate which became absolute in 1243, and was continued thereafter either by the house of Savoy, or of Savoy Acaia. When French troops invaded Piedmont 1536 , Pinerolo was conquered and it remained under their control until 1574.
