  1. Billinghay

Billinghay is a village and civil parish in the North Kesteven district of Lincolnshire , England , about ten miles north east of Sleaford . According to the 2001 census the parish had a population of 1,808. The village lies along the B1189 road for Walcott, Lincolnshire Walcott near the junction with the A153 road A153 . Just south of the village towards Sleaford is North Kyme . The settlement is mentioned in the Doomsday Book. The name originates from the Saxon name for a fishery. The topography in ancient times would have seen a small settlement on a gravel mound surrounded by marsh which was flooded in winter. After the draining of the fens in the late 18th century the area became rich agricultural land as it is today. The parish church is of historic interest. It dates from the 13th century. After the phased closure of Lafford High School due to falling pupil numbers, Billinghay Primary School is the one remaining school in the village. ref http news.bbc.co.uk 1 hi england lincolnshire 7268317.stm BBC NEWS England Lincolnshire County high school to close doors Bot generated title ref The village also has one of the UK s top Town twinning Twinning Association s, twinned with Ballon, Sarthe Ballon , in the Sarthe Departments of France department of France .
