It consists of a bronze bust sculpture bust of Seward by Daniel Chester French , who also sculpted Abraham Lincoln Lincoln seated at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, set in the middle of a small circular plaza with benches designed by Richard Henry Dana . Just behind it is S. S. Seward Institute , the local secondary education secondary school , named after Seward s father. It was unveiled September 24, 1930, and restored in 2000 after being named to the National Register of Historic Places the year before. In 2007 the memorial was vandalism vandalized .     Henry Augustus Wise May 24, 1819 April 3, 1869 author and U.S. Navy U.S. Naval Officer born in Brooklyn, New York , to George Stewart Wise and Catherine Standsberry. The Wise family moved to Virginia and his Naval career began in 1834 as a midshipman. Henry served in the U.S. Mexican War as a Lieutenant on board the razee Independence seeing action in the Gulf of California . He dedicated his consequent naval service in becoming an expert in gunnery. When the American Civil War broke out he considered serving with his home state of Virginia when they left the Union but opted to stay in the U.S. Navy as a Captain. Promoted to Commander of the Niagara in 1862 he was soon ordered to destroy the Gosport Navy Yard , near his old home. In 1864 President Abraham Lincoln appointed Wise chief of the Bureau of Ordnance and Hydrography, and was promoted to Captain in 1866 he held the Ordnance position until his resignation in 1868. He died in Naples, Italy, the following year. In 1850 he married Catherine Brooks Everett, daughter of Edward Everett and Charlotte Gray Brooks.     Henry Augustus Ellis 24 July 1861 3 October 1939 was an Irish Australian physician and federalist, important in the promotion of Federation of Australia federation in Western Australia . Ellis, was the fourth son of Colonel Francis Ellis of County Tyrone , Ireland, and his wife Louisa, n e McMahon. He was educated at St Columba s, county Tyrone and Trinity College, Dublin , where he graduated M.B. in 1884, and Ch.B. in 1885. Ellis then migrated to Australia , was a resident at Sydney hospital for two years, and from 1890 to 1894 was an honorary physician and surgeon to the hospital. He went to Coolgardie in 1894 and had charge of the government sanatorium there, took an intense interest in his work, in which he was most successful, and also interested himself in local politics and the federation movement. Western Australia did not take part in the referendum held in 1898, and the government under John Forrest Forrest was opposed to the proposals for federation as late as the end of 1899. However, on the Western Australian goldfields, the public sentiment was strongly in favour of federation, and on 13 December 1899 a meeting of delegates was held which decided to send a petition to the Queen praying for the establishment of a separate goldfields colony, which would become part of the Australian Commonwealth. Some 28,000 signatures were obtained to this petition and an immense amount of propaganda matter, mostly drafted by Ellis, was sent to the British press and members of the House of Commons. His elder brothers were Sir Warington Wilkinson Smyth 1817 1890 and Charles Piazzi Smyth 1819 1900 . Of his six sisters, Henrietta married Prof. Baden Powell , and Rosetta married Sir William Henry Flower . Educated at Bedford school from 1834 to 1840, Smyth entered the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich Royal Military Academy at Woolwich on 1 Feb. 1841. Receiving a commission as second lieutenant in the Royal Artillery on 20 Dec. 1843, and being promoted lieutenant on 5 April 1845, he was on foreign service in Bermuda from 1847 to 1851. Promoted second captain on 11 Aug. 1851, he was quartered at City of Halifax Halifax, Nova Scotia , till 1854, and at Corfu from February 1855.     orphan date September 2010 Henry Augustus Muhlenberg III 1848 1906 was a prominent citizen of Reading, Pennsylvania and an unsuccessful candidate for the United States Congress with the Republican Party United States Republican nomination in 1892. Muhlenberg was born in Reading. He was the son of Henry Augustus Muhlenberg 1823 1854 and Annie H. Muhlenberg Muhlenberg, who was a cousin of Henry Augustus on his father s side. The young Muhlenberg studied with a tutor but later spent a year at Pennsylvania College, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania Gettysburg now known as Gettysburg College . He then began studies at Harvard University 1868. He graduated from Harvard with honors, receiving a degree in history in 1872. He then went to study law in the office of George F. Baer , Esq., being admitted to the bar of Berks County, Pennsylvania in 1875. He was main involved in business law. He was a director in the Framers National Bank, the Reading Trust Company , and the Mount Penn Gravity Railroad . He was also a director and treasurer of the Reading City Passenger Railway Company , which he help found. He was also a trustee of the Charles Evans Cemetery Company, a vestryman of Trinity Lutheran Church, and a member of the Valley Forge Park Commission, to which position he was appointed by two Governors of Pennsylvania. He was a staunch Republican. In 1892 Muhlenberg was nominated for Congress on the Republican ticket, but lost in the general election.
