The Symphony for strings and trumpet in D Symphony for Strings , ArthurHonegger s second, was commissioned in 1937 by Paul Sacher to mark the tenth anniversary of the Basel Chamber Orchestra . Progress was slow, however, in part due to the interruption of the Second World War . The first performance was given by the Collegium Musicum of Zurich under Sacher on 18 May 1942. Between 1827 and 1940 it was based at 69 St James s Street . It is now best remembered for having built the London clubhouse currently occupied by the Carlton Club Carlton . The club was first formed at a meeting at a bank at 16 St James s Street on 8 May 1811, with the resolution That a New Club be forthwith established, to consist of 300 Members. The club is notable for being the first to be a members club wholly owned by the members, as opposed to the proprietary clubs which previously existed, like White s , Boodle s , and Brooks s , and it accordingly served as the mould for most of the nineteenth century members owned clubs which followed. The original club committee consisted of eleven members. O Neal party Republican Party United States Republican Party Arthur A. Will was Mayor of Louisville, Kentucky from 1925 to 1927. The son of a building contractor, Will was born in the Portland, Louisville Portland neighborhood of Louisville and educated in public schools. He dropped out at age 16 to become a carpenter, and eventually founded his own construction company with his brother, James, and built numerous buildings in Portland. He was elected to the City Council in 1907 and to the Louisville Board of Aldermen Board of Aldermen in 1917. He was elected president of that body in 1921 and 1923. In 1925, he ran for mayor against Democrat candidate William T. Baker . Republican Party boss Chesley Searcy discovered in October that Baker had been a member of the Ku Klux Klan as recently as April 1925. After the Louisville Herald Post broke the story, attorney Joseph T. O Neal was appointed the emergency replacement for Baker a week before the election. Will won the election narrowly. He was removed from office by the Kentucky Court of Appeals in 1927 after a lawsuit from Democratics successfully challenged the election results. Afterwards he served as director of the Department of Public Works until 1933. He died in 1940 and was buried in Cave Hill Cemetery .
