Taylor, Jr. April 6, 1929&ndash February 6, 1995 was an United States American jazz drummer of the hard bop school. After playing in the bands of Howard McGhee , Coleman Hawkins , Buddy DeFranco , Bud Powell , and George Wallington from 1948 to 1957, he formed his own group, the Wailers. Between 1957 and 1963 he toured with Donald Byrd , recorded with Miles Davis and John Coltrane , and performed with Thelonious Monk he also was a member of the original Kenny Dorham Quartet of 1957. In 1963 he moved to Europe , where he lived mainly in France and Belgium for 20 years, playing with local groups and with touring American musicians. He continued freelancing after returning to the United States, and in 1993 organized a second band called the Wailers. He is the author of Notes and Tones , a book based on his interviews with other musicians. William H. Taylor was born in Iowa on February 12, 1853 to a large family. In 1872 his family moved to the Snoqualmie Valley . William Taylor took a job peeling potatoes and washing dishes in the cookhouse at the Newcastle coal mines, near Issaquah, Washington Issaquah . After that, he went to Fall City to help clear land. Later he worked as logger near the mouth of the Skykomish River . He returned to the upper Snoqualmie Valley to work for Lucinda Fares . Later, he worked for Lucinda s uncle, Jerimiah Borst , the father of the Snoqualmie Valley. He built several cabins and worked odd jobs. In 1876, he moved to California to work a short stint in a mine. He married Molly Beard and he and his new wife traveled north to work on Borst s farm for six years. Later, they built their own home, a boarding house and a trading post for travelers passing over the Snoqualmie Pass. They raised six children. In the 1890s, the Taylors separated. Since its humble beginnings in 1998, it has become one of the leading arts festivals in Australia dedicated to the work and ideas of communities not included in other major Australian arts festivals. The program includes the festivals Electrofringe , the National Young Writers Festival , Critical Animals , Sound Summit the Crack Theatre Festival and other projects. Naming This Is Not Art takes its name from a prominent piece of graffiti on what was Newcastle s tallest building, Latec House now completely refurbished and converted to apartments , which had been derelict for several decades. Synopsis Boycie and Marlene take a trip to a local country mansion, where Boycie admires the portraits that adorn the walls. Meanwhile, thrown out by his wife, Elgin has moved into Bryan s caravan and Mrs Cakeworthy s relentless gossiping fuels speculation about their change in relationship. Later the caravan burns down, and Boycie is horrified to find that Marlene has offered Bryan and Elgin a place to stay until it is fit to inhabit again. Still at the Grange a month later, Boycie despairs of ever getting rid of them, but they have a surprise in store as a mark of their gratitude, they have commissioned a renowned local artist, Genevieve Klunge, to paint his portrait. Sadly for Boycie, Mrs Klunge is mainly renowned for her paintings of cows. Life He was the most eminent member of the Taylors of Chipping Ongar Ongar , a family known especially in art and literature. His grandfather and father, who bore the same name, were both eminent engravers, and the latter was the author of various books for children. Taylor was brought up to the hereditary art of engraving, in which he displayed pre eminent skill, his work gaining the admiration of D. G. Rossetti .
