She is the daughter of Toran Darell II and the granddaughter of Toran and Bayta Darell and through Bayta is a direct descendent of Hober Mallow , and becomes famous for writing historical novels and a biography of her grandmother Bayta. At the age of fourteen, she spies on her father and his co conspirators who are hunting down the Second Foundation. She stows away on Homir Munn s spaceship when he travels to Kalgan Foundation universe Kalgan to study the palace of Mule Foundation the Mule . Lord Stettin, who is the ruler of Kalgan, initially refuses Munn s request to study the Mule s palace, but soon takes an interest in Arkady as a potential wife. He studied philosophy and natural science at the Jagiellonian University in Krak w and later in Pozna and the University of Leipzig . As an officer of the reserve of the Polish Army, he took part in the Greater Poland Uprising 1918&ndash 1919 Greater Poland Uprising in 1918, was one of the organizers of the Polish Military Organisation from 1918 to 1920. He travelled to Mexico , Indochina , Brazil , Madagascar , West Africa , Canada and United States , amongst other countries. He wrote 32 books that have been translated into 23 languages and sold over 10 million copies in total. His most famous and popular book, written in 1942, was Squadron 303 book Dywizjon 303 Squadron 303 about the legendary No. 303 Polish Fighter Squadron Ko ciuszko Squadron fighting during the Battle of Britain it sold over 1.5 million copies. Biography He was born in the small village of Pushcha Vodycia, now a suburb of Kyiv Kiev . As a pre schooler, he spent a great deal of time outdoors with his grandfather, a shepherd who played and made pastoral pipes akin to those of the Swiss. The shepherd s pipe was the first instrument he learned to play. In grammar school, he learned the guitar, mandolin and balalaika and played in the school orchestra. In 1926 at the age of 13, Filippenko began vocational school and completed a course in river transport. After graduation he began working at a shipbuilding factory. In his spare time, he played and directed amateur theatricals and came to the attention of the composer Ilya Vilensky who was director of a local music school. Vilensky invited Filippenko to attend the school, and it was there Filippenko learned to play the piano and studied music theory and composition, all while still working as a metal turner at the shipbuilding factory. As he progressed quickly, Vilensky sent him on to the Lysenko Music Institute, the most important music school in the Ukraine and the forerunner of the Kyiv Conservatory. Filippenko began as a night student but eventually obtained permission to study full time. His main teachers were Lev Revutsky , Victor Kosenko and Boris Lyatoshinsky . After graduating from the Institute in 1939, he was immediately drafted into the Red Army, where he remained in a military orchestra throughout the Second World War.
