POV date January 2011 Primary sources date May 2010 AppleCare is a service and support plan and is part of the customer support service of Apple Inc. , providing customers with 90 days of free phone support and one year of hardware warranty coverage. Both can be extended to two years for iPods, iPads, and iPhones or three years for Macs through the AppleCare Protection Plan , which is purchased separately or with new Apple products, mainly Macintosh , iPod , iPhone , and iPad . Professional plans are also available. The AppleCare service began in the 1980s.
