The Mandarin Chinese Chinese word for imam , zh Pinyin ahong , used in particular by the Hui people , also derives from this term. Duty Akhoonds are responsible for leading religious services in a community. Akhoonds lead the prayers in the mosques , deliver religious sermons and perform religious ceremonies, such as birth rites and funeral services. They also often teach in Islamic schools known in Iran as hawza hozeh and in other countries as a madrassa . Akhoonds will usually have completed some studies of varying levels in a madrassa , studying various Islamic and non Islamic subjects, such as Sharia Islamic law , Fiqh Islamic jurisprudence , Qur an ic studies, and basic mathematics. They commonly dress in religious attire.     Nofootnotes date February 2008 File IslamAkhun.jpg framed right Islam Akhun portrait by Marc Aurel Stein Islam Akhoond Akhun was an Uyghur people Uyghur con man who forged numerous Sino Indian manuscripts on birch bark document birch bark and passed them off as ancient Khotan ese manuscripts. Through George McCartney British consul George McCartney and Nikolai Petrovsky , the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland British and Imperial Russia Russian consuls in Kashgar , his works found their way into museums in London and St. Petersburg and fooled some of the most brilliant Linguistics linguists of their time, including Dr. Rudolf Hoernle . Dr. Hoernle published papers based on these manuscripts and tried, unsuccessfully, to decipher these pseudo Br hm script Brahmi manuscripts. Doubting the authenticity of the works, Marc Aurel Stein Sir Aurel Stein met with Islam Akhun in Khotan in the spring of 1901. Stein questioned Akhun on the manuscripts and concluded that the manuscripts were fake. Mawlawi generally means highly qualified Islamic scholar. Usually, a Maulvi would have completed full studies in a madrassa Islamic school or Darul Uloom Islamic seminary . Early life and education Shaig was born to Marneuli native Azerbaijani people Azeri parents, Mustafa Talibzadeh and Mehri Bayramli. His father was an akhoond at the Caucasus Muslim Clerical Board, who taught Islamic law , Persian language Persian and Arabic language Arabic at a secondary school in Tbilisi then Tiflis . In 1883, due to a strained relationship with her husband, Shaig s mother moved with her two sons and a daughter to Greater Khorasan Khorasan Iran , where Abdulla Shaig later attended a school. As a teenager, he wrote ghazal s and translated a number of pieces from the Russian literature into Persian. In 1901, at the age of 20, he permanently settled in Baku and passed an examination at the First Alexandrian Gymnasium becoming a certified teacher. He worked in the field of public education for the next 33 years. Works Shaig was a romanticist and a children s author. His plays and folklore oriented tales first started being published in local newspapers and magazines in 1906. Later he was also known for writing short stories that illustrated bitter consequences of poverty and economic ordeals faced by the working class in pre Soviet Russia . This made Shaig s works particularly popular in the Soviet Union . His celebration of internationalism and pacifism earned him great success as a writer.
