Aeronautica Umbra SA was an Italian aircraft manufacturer founded at Foligno in 1935 in aviation 1935 by Muzio Macchi . The firm produced Savoia Marchetti SM.79 SM.79 bombers for the Regia Aeronautica but never enjoyed success with its own designs. Its best known attempt was the Aeronautica Umbra Trojani AUT.18 AUT.18 fighter of 1936 in aviation 1936 . Another promising prototype, the MB.902 had two Daimler Benz DB 605 engines within the fuselage, driving contra rotating propellers mounted on the wings, but this was destroyed without ever having flown. After World War II , the company re formed and in 1968 in aviation 1968 commenced work on a design for a three engine STOL transport aircraft designated the AUM 903 . This, however, was never actually built, although the company did manufacture Scheibe Motorflake under licence for a time. References Gunston, Bill. 1993 . NOTOC Compagnia Nazionale Aeronautica was a manufacturer of aircraft and aircraft engines established in Italy in 1920 in avition 1920 by Count Giovanni Bonmartini . Together with a group of World War I veteran pilots, he operated a flying school in Rome from a field that would eventually be developed into Littorio airport . For the next decade or so, CNA also developed their own aircraft and engines to power them. Bonmartini had also worked on an advanced racing motorcycle engine, the GBR in another partnership, and eventually CNA acquired the rights to this as well. In 1934 Bonmartini sold CNA to Caproni . In turn, Caproni sold rights to the GBR engine to Gilera , who developed it as the Gilera Rondine Rondine . Engines CNA C CNA D References http home.comcast.net aeroengine CNA.html Erickson, Jack. In the spring of 2003, Alenia Aeronautica of Italy unveiled a non flying ground test prototype of a half scale UCAV demonstrator, known as an Integration Technology Vehicle ITV , with a flight prototype to follow. The ITV has a high mounted wing with a sweep of 35 degrees a vee tail a Microturbo TRI60 5 turbojet, with 4.4  kN 450 kgp 990  lbf thrust, mounted on the back behind the wing retractable tricycle landing gear and metal construction. As the ITV designation suggests, this machine is strictly for technology development and risk reduction. A real Alenia Aeronautica UCAV will be at least twice as big, use a tailless delta configuration, and will be made mostly of composite materials. It will have a modular payload bay for carriage of smart weapons, SAR, or day night EO sensors. Alenia Spazio, a sister organization in the Finnmeccia Group, will provide a satellite data link. Meteor is also part of the Finnmeccia group and there is likely some collaboration between Meteor and Alenia Aeronautica on UAV design.
