  1. De Moivre?Laplace theorem

Lowercase Image De moivre laplace.gif right 250px thumb As n grows large, the shape of the binomial distribution begins to resemble the smooth Gaussian curve . In probability theory , the de Moivre Laplace theorem is a normal distribution normal approximation to the binomial distribution . It is a special case of the central limit theorem . It states that the binomial distribution of the number of successes in n statistical independence independent Bernoulli trial s with probability p of success on each trial is approximately a normal distribution with mean np and standard deviation math sqrt npq math , if n is very large and some conditions are satisfied. The theorem appeared in the second edition of The Doctrine of Chances by Abraham de Moivre , published in 1738. it appears de Moivre first published it in an article in 1733 or 1734 which later made it into The Doctrine of Chances, but I could t find a reference for that. 1. Abraham de Revier, Sr.

Abraham de Revier, Sr. was the first Elder religious elder of the Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow in Sleepy Hollow, New York when it was organized in 1697. He was one of the ninety six original members of the church and was the patriarch of a leading family in the Sleepy Hollow community. He has been credited as the author of a private memorandum book that is now lost to history, which was heavily drawn upon in 1715 by Dirck Storm to compose the church s history. However, he signed his 1716 will by his mark, so it is more likely that the memoranda should be credited to his son, also named Abraham and a later elder of the church, who had predeceased his father about 1712. ref N.Y. Little is known of his personal history beyond the fact that he was secretary to an embassy from the French court to the republic of Venice . The work was printed by the king s printer and dedicated to Louvois , which points to the probability that the government did not disapprove of it. It appeared in March 1676, and provoked a heated protest from the Venetian ambassador, Giustiniani . The author was sent to the Bastille , where he remained, however, only six weeks Archives de la Bastille , vol. viii. pp.  93 and 94 . A second edition with a supplement, published immediately after, drew forth fresh protestations, and the edition was suppressed. 1. Abraham Momber van de Velde

Abraham Momber a.k.a. Abraham Momber van de Velde was the last commander opperhoofd of the Dutch East India Company settlement on Mauritius . He followed Roelof Deodati as the de facto Dutch governor on November 25, 1703. On November 15, 1707 the Company s premises, goods, and administration were almost entirely destroyed by a fire. The same year instructions had been received from the Company to abandon the island. Most Dutch families were transported on two ships to Cape Town , where they arrived on January 26, 1709. After destructing everything they could not take with them, to prevent the abandoned station to be of service to anyone else, Momber and his garrison left on January 25, 1710 to Jakarta Batavia on the ship Beverwaart . The next colonial governor did not arrive until 1715 with Guillaume Dufresne d Arsel of the French East India Company .
