grip af N regskonungas gum or grip is a synoptic kings sagas history of the kings of Norway, written in Old Norse . The preserved text starts with the death of H lfdan svarti and ends with the accession of Ingi kr khryggr but the original is thought to have covered a longer period, probably up to the reign of Sverrir . The work was composed by an unknown Norwegian writer around 1190. The only surviving manuscript is Icelandic from the first half of the 13th century. The preserved parchment book consists of four paper quire quires , a fifth quire has been lost. The first leaf is also missing, therefore the original title of the book, if it had any, is unknown. The name grip af N regskonungas gum A Synopsis of the Sagas of the Kings of Norway was first used in an edition in 1835. grip is often compared with the two other Norwegian synoptic histories from the same period, Historia Norvegiae and the work of Theodoric the Monk Theodoricus monachus . It broke ground by being the first one written in the vernacular. grip is also the first of the kings sagas to quote skaldic poetry in the text. Kennedy 1923 , is a full rigged ship full rigged steel ship moored on the western shore of the islet Skeppsholmen in central Stockholm , Sweden , now serving as a Hostel youth hostel . Located on the shore next to the Admiralty House Stockholm Admiralty House , the ship was built in the UK in 1888 and originally known as Dunboyne , after a town in County Meath , Ireland . On its arrival to Sweden in 1915 it was renamed G. D. Kennedy and when the Navy bought it in 1923 it was given its present name after the shipbuilder and Vice Admiral Fredrik Henrik af Chapman 1721 1808 .
