The cabling system was standardized in 2001 as IEC 60603 7 7, and then selected as the worldwide Category 7 cable CAT7 cabling standard within ISO11801. It is a 2 in 1 solution that provides backwards compatibility for standard 8P8C RJ45 connectors in a Category 6 cable CAT6 interface mode 1 , where eight conductors are used for CAT6 100 250 MHz operation. In addition, GG45 has four additional conductors, in the extreme corners, to interface with new high speed CAT7, 600MHz updated version up to 1000MHz networks mode 2 that will run 10 gigabit Ethernet over copper LAN systems note that 10 gigabit Ethernet is now able to run over 8P8C connectors using Cat 6A cable instead . In mode 2, the 4 additional conductors will be used for 2 pairs while the remaining 2 twisted pairs will be connected to the original RJ45 connector s most distant pins 1 and 2 and 7 and 8. ref cite web title Twisted pair connectors continue technological evolution url http www.cablinginstall.com index display article display 344659 articles cabling installation maintenance volume 16 issue 11 features technology twisted pair connectors continue technological evolution.html date November 1, 2008 accessdate October 19, 2009 , section A step further ref See also TERA ARJ45 GG45 compatible connector for the proposed Category 7 cable Cat7a up to 1000MHz cabling http www.belfuse.com StewartConnector PRPage.asp?pRecno 178 press release References references Category Networking hardware de GG 45 fr GG45 ja GG45 ru GG45 ... more details

Image Cat7.jpg thumb 200px Category 7 cable Category 7 cable Cat 7 , ISO IEC 11801 2002 category 7 class F , is a cable standard for Ethernet and other interconnect technologies that can be made to be backward compatible with traditional Cat 5 and Cat 6 Ethernet cable. Cat 7 features even more strict specifications for crosstalk and system noise than Cat 6. To achieve this, Shielded cable shielding has been added for individual wire pairs and the cable as a whole. Besides the foil shield, the twisting of the pairs and number of turns per inch causes RF shielding and protects from crosstalk. Category 7 is recognized for all the country organizations members of ISO. The Cat 7 cable standard has been created to allow 10 Gigabit Ethernet over 100  m of copper cabling citation needed date December 2010 also, 10  Gbit s Ethernet now is typically run on Category 6 cable Cat 6a . The cable contains four twisted copper wire pairs, just like the earlier standards. Cat 7 can be terminated either with 8P8C compatible GG45 electrical connectors which incorporate the 8P8C standard or with TERA connectors. When combined with GG45 or TERA connectors, Cat 7 cable is rated for transmission frequencies of up to 600  Megahertz MHz . As of 2010 November , all manufacturers of active equipment have chosen to support the 8P8C for their 10 Gigabit Ethernet products on copper, and not the GG45 or TERA in order to function on Cat 6a . Due to lack of support for the 8P8C connector, Category 7 is not recognized in TIA EIA 568 . Rollover cable also known as Cisco console cable is a type of null modem cable that is most commonly used to connect a computer terminal to a router s System console console port. This cable is typically flat and has a light blue color to help distinguish it from other types of network cabling. It gets the name rollover because the pinouts on one end are reversed from the other, as if the wire had been rolled over and you were viewing it from the other side. Orphan date February 2009 unreferenced date December 2008 A Server Interface Pod is a proprietary hardware unit developed by Dell and Avocent . It sends KVM switch keyboard, video, and mouse signals over Category 5 cable s, greatly decreasing the workload of managing normally bulky and expensive KVM cables. One side of a SIP consists of either two PS 2 connector PS 2 cables and a VGA cable or a single USB cable and a VGA cable, which are connected to a host. The other side consists of a female 8P8C RJ 45 modular connector which is connected to a KVM switch via a straight through Cat 5 cable. A SIP can be interfaced via RJ45 cable directly to a KVM or through a Dell Port Expansion Module which connects eight SIPs to a single KVM port. This is useful for installing a single KVM into a multirack environment with minimal cabling. Upon connection to the KVM the SIP will register itself, and the user can then allocate a name to the SIP, such as the server s name. This name is stored on the SIP, so if the KVM switch is replaced, reconfiguration of each SIP is not required. Many of Dell s KVM switches are IP enabled, allowing users to remote control servers with a Linux or Microsoft Windows client. ISDN In ISDN terminology, a terminal adapter or TA is a device that connects a terminal computer to the ISDN network. The TA therefore fulfills a similar function to the ones a modem has on the Plain old telephone service POTS network, and is therefore sometimes called an ISDN modem . The latter term, however, is partially misleading as there is no modulation or demodulation performed. There are devices on the market that combine the functions of an ISDN TA with those of a classical modem with an ISDN line interface . These combined TA modems permit connections from both ISDN and analog line modem counterparts. In addition, a TA may contain an interface and codec for one or more analog telephone lines aka a b line , allowing an existing POTS installation to be upgraded to ISDN without changing phones. Terminal adapters typically connect to a basic rate interface S interface S0 , sometimes also U interface U0 . On the terminal side, the most popular interfaces are RS 232 serial and USB others like V.35 or RS 449 are only of historical interest. Devices connecting ISDN to a network e.g. Ethernet commonly include router routing functionality while they technically include a TA function, they are referred to as ISDN router s. Mobile Networks In Mobile network s, the terminal adapter is used by the Terminal equipment to access the Mobile termination , using AT commands see Hayes command set . In 2G such as GSM or CDMA , the terminal adapter is a theoretically optional while in 3G such as W CDMA , the terminal adapter is mandatory and is part of the Mobile Termination . Automation industry In the automation industry, a terminal adapter is a passive device that converts a connector like the 8P8C RJ 45 modular connector or DE 9 connector 9 pin D Sub into a terminal block to facilitate wiring. It is often used when daisy chain wiring is necessary on a multi node serial communication network like RS 485 or RS 422 . Image Keystone module CAT5 orange.jpg thumb A keystone module for a CAT5 network cable File Keystone wall plate.jpg thumb right A 3 port keystone wall plate A keystone module is a standardized snap in package for mounting a variety of low voltage electrical Jack connector jacks or optical connectors into a keystone wall plate , face plate, surface mount box, or a patch panel . Keystone modules have a rectangular face of 14.5 Millimetre mm wide by 16.0mm high and are held in place with flexible tabs. This allows them to be snapped into a mounting plate with correspondingly sized rectangular holes, called ports. All keystones, regardless of the type of jack they carry, are interchangeable and replaceable. This provides much flexibility in arranging and mounting many different types of electrical jacks in one plate or panel without requiring customized manufacturing. Some keystones use a pass though type connector, where there is a jack on both the front face as well as the rear side. Others only have a jack on the front and employ a different mechanism for hard wiring signal cables to the rear, such as a mini 110 block , an insulation displacement connector , or a Crimp joining crimp or solder connection. As this specification was originally developed by the company FitLinxx, sometimes it is also referred to as FitLinxx . Purpose The CSAFE specification describes the physical wiring scheme as well as the format of the data frames. The CSAFE protocol is designed to work in a master slave fashion. A special I O jack on the exercise equipment accepts a normal 8P8C RJ 45 plug although the wiring scheme has no relation to ethernet wired to a normal RS 232 cable. The CSAFE port also has pins which should be wired to an input Jack plug audio jack . Development In October, 2000, a CSAFE group was formed within FISA http www.fisana.org Fitness Industry Suppliers Association to help coordinate the continued evolution of CSAFE. This group is led by a steering committee with membership from a broad representation of the industry. The CSAFE protocol is licensed on a royalty free basis to any company, person, or organization wishing to use it. Wiring Scheme Most of the pins from the RJ 45 plug should be connected to a normal RS 232 interface configured for an asynchronous communication mode of 9600 baud with 8 data bits, 1 stop bits and no parity. This article refers to a specific series of historic telephones. For multi line phone systems in general, see private branch exchange or key telephone system . A Multi Line Extension , or MLX telephone, is a no longer manufactured series of digital telephone used with several PBX systems sold throughout the 1980s and 1990s by AT&T . This series is notable for the sheer quantity of devices operating in the field, and for its after market continuing long after the manufacturers stopped making them. Their popularity has also contributed to the existence of a sizeable refurbishment market. These phones are typically used with the AT&T Merlin PBX system, originally known as the American Bell Merlin, and which was recently sold under the Lucent Avaya names. The systems they work with include the Merlin Legend , Merlin Magix , and the latest AT&T Partner system. Although there are several versions of MLX telephones, all of them resemble typical business telephones, with anywhere from 30 to 80 buttons on their keypads. Their most common usage is in offices. Communication protocol MLX telephones use an unpublished digital communications protocol. They connect to their host system using an 8P8C 8 position 8 conductor connector, however only the middle 4 positions are actually used. The processing for an MLX telephone is done principally by its host the keypad and display is essentially the equivalent of a dumb terminal contained inside the set. There are provisions for two independent two way voice channels and the data channel similar to ISDN BRI going to a single telephone set. Because each channel is two way, the two voice channels are rarely used simultaneously, except for example, when a voice paging announcement comes over the speakerphone while somebody is using the line, or if an additional multi function module accessory is attached to the phone that permits the second voice channel to be used as a normal analog telephone line , such as for a modem or fax machine .
