for other units with the same regimental number 64th Regiment of Foot disambiguation Loudon s Highlanders , or the Earl of Loudon s Regiment of Foot , was an infantry regiment of the British Army . The great bravery of the 42nd Regiment of Foot 42nd Highlanders then the 43rd and the admirable service which they rendered at the Battle of Fontenoy in 1745, made the Government anxious to avail themselves still further of the military qualities of the Highlanders. Authority, therefore, was given to John Campbell, 4th Earl of Loudoun to raise another Highland regiment under the patronage of the noblemen, chiefs, and gentlemen of that part of the kingdom, whose sons and connections would be appointed officers. The regiment was raised at Inverness and Perth in August 1745. The regiment fought at the Battle of Prestonpans in 1745 where they were defeated and many were taken prisoner but later released. Three companies of Loudon s Highlanders fought for the British government against the Jacobites at the Battle of Culloden in 1746, where they were victorious, alongside a company of Highlanders from the 43rd later renamed the 42nd Regiment of Foot, otherwise known as the Black Watch . ref Pollard, Tony. The society was formed in 1823. The principal aims of the Society are the preservation of Highland Dress, and as far as can be of the Celtic Language to support of loyal peaceable manly conduct, and the promotion of social and benevolent feelings among the inhabitants of this district, for which purpose it was further agreed to open a fund for distressed members and their families. Unlike the Atholl Highlanders , the Lonach Highlanders have never been presented with colours, standards and guidons colours , however they carry the society colour and two banners ensigned LONACH. They cannot be considered as part of the British Army or indeed as an independent military force. The Highlanders parade once a year during the annual Lonach Highland Games and Gathering , held on the 4th Saturday of August ,on a march to officially open the games and at various points along the route from Bellabeg to Strathdon , the column stops for a wee dram .
