It established the French Directory Directory , and remained in effect until the coup d etat coup of 18 Brumaire November 9, 1799 effectively ended the Revolution and began the ascendancy of Napoleon Bonaparte . It was more conservative than the abortive democratic French Constitution of 1793 . The Constitution of 1795 established a liberal republic with a franchise based on the payment of taxes, similar to that of the French Constitution of 1791 a bicameral legislature, Council of Elders, Council of 500 to slow down the legislative process and a five man Directory. The central government retained great power, including emergency powers to curb freedom of the press and freedom of association.     The Treaty of Den Haag also known as the Treaty of The Hague and seldom known as the Hedges Treaty was signed on May 16, 1795 between representatives of the French Republic and the Batavian Republic . Based on the terms of the treaty, the Batavian Republic ceded the territories of Maastricht , Venlo , and Flanders to France. Moreover, the accord established a defensive alliance between the two nations. Furthermore, the Dutch agreed to pay an indemnity of 100 million guilders for their part in the war of the First Coalition , and to provide the French Republic a large loan against a low rate of interest.     The Treason Act 1795 sometimes also known as the Treasonable Practices Act ref http www.jstor.org pss 580916 JSTOR ref 36 Geo.3 c.7 was one of two acts introduced by the British government in the wake of the stoning of King George III on his way to open Parliament of the United Kingdom Parliament in 1795, the other being the Seditious Meetings Act 1795 . The Act made it high treason to within the realm or without compass, imagine, invent, devise or intend death or destruction, or any bodily harm tending to death or destruction, maim or wounding, imprisonment or restraint, of the person of ... the King. This was derived from the Sedition Act 1661 , which had expired. The 1795 Act was originally a temporary Act which was to expire when George III died, but it was made permanent by the Treason Act 1817 . Some other treasons created by the Act which also originated with the 1661 Act were reduced to felonies by the Treason Felony Act 1848 , which also extended the 1795 Act to Ireland.     Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 The Copenhagen Fire of 1795 started Friday the June 5, around 3 p.m. at the Navy s old base at Gammelholm in the fleets warehouse for coal and barrels. The fire spread, crossing over Holmens Canal to the quarter around Saint Nicholas Church and further along Gammel Strand Old Beach to Kompagnistr de Company Street , Knabrostr de, R dhusstr de City Hall Street , Farvergade Dyer Street , Gammeltorv Old Square , Nytorv New Square , Frederikberggade, Vestergade Western Street and Sankt Peders Str de Saint Peter s Street . The fire died out Sunday the June 7, around 4 p.m.. It had destroyed 941 houses and made homeless around 6000 residents. The fire burned the remaining part of the quarter from the Middle Ages which the Copenhagen Fire of 1728 had left behind, leaving very few houses from before the 18th Century.
