Sun Media Corporation is the owner of several widely read tabloidnewspapers in Canada. It is a subsidiary of Quebecor Media. Sun Media also operates Sun TV, a television station in Toronto, Ontario. The station is jointly owned by Quebecor subsidiaries Groupe TVA (75%) and Sun Media (25%)
At present, Sun Media is largely absent from the Vancouver, British Columbia newspaper market, aside from the minor 24 Hours paper (which is co-published with the Jim Pattison Group); establishing a Sun newspaper there has proven difficult due to the existence of both the broadsheetVancouver Sun and the tabloidVancouver Province, both of which are owned by CanWest Global. In the mid-1990s Sun Media attempted to establish itself in Vancouver by publishing a daily sports newspaper there, but the experiment was not a success.
