Awards & Criticism
The above link connects to an editorial published by a journalist who opposed Dr. Krashen's position on bilingual education during the 1998 campaign for Proposition 227, which eliminated bilingual education in California. The article appears on the website of a political organization, rather than in a scholarly journal. While the author is entitled to her opinions, the above piece does not represent a scholarly argument, nor does it coincide with the opinions of the overwhelming majority of linguistic and educational experts who have reviewed Dr. Krashen's research. He was the winner of the 1982 Mildenberger Award, given for his book, Second Language Acquisition and Second Language Learning (Prentice-Hall). He was co-winner of the Pimsleur Award, given by the American Council of Foreign Language Teachers for the best published article in 1985. His 1986 paper "Lateralisation, language learning and the critical period" was selected as Citation Class by Current Contents. In 1993 the Distinguished Presentation related to School Library Media Centers, was awarded to Dr. Krashen by editors of the School Library Media Annual.
