A shower cap is a cap worn while showering or bathing, to protect hair from becoming wet. They are used by both men and women.

Many are produced by joining two layers of fabric together in order to make the shower cap not only waterproof but aesthetic also. However, simpler ones are purely made from one layer of a waterproof material. This material is often made from a type of plastic. They all contain an elastic band to contain the individual's hair.

Though mostly used in a purely practical way, the caps have sometimes also been worn as fashion accessories (particularly among African-American males)^[1][2]. This second use was especially popular from the 1970s through the early 1990s.
