Schouten Islands
The Schouten Islands (Kepulauan Biak, also Biak Islands or Geelvink Islands) are an island group of eastern Indonesia in the Cenderawasih Bay (or Geelvink Bay) off the northern coast of New Guinea. The group consists of larger islands Biak, Supiori and Numfor, and numerous smaller islands. They are part of the Indonesian province of Papua. The Schouten Islands are named after Dutch explorer Willem Schouten. The islands have the most highly endemic avifauna of any single area in the New Guinea region, with 11 to 16 bird species entirely restricted in their range to this small island group. http://www.birdlife.org/datazone/ebas/index.html?action=EbaHTMDetails.asp&sid=174&m=0 http://www.bird-watching-papua-adventure-travel.com/birdinggeelvinkislands.html.
