STA Travel is the world's largest travel organization for students and young people. Founded in 1979 by acquiring assets from the bankruptcy of AUS Student Travel in Australia including their successful UK company (trading since 1976). Over time it has acquired or started other operations so today it operates from 92 countries. The oldest legal entity in the Group is that of Austria (formerly Oekista 1950); Germany (SRID 1955) and Switzerland (SSR Travel 1962).
The core proposition is relevant advice and unique product ideas from experienced advisers who themselves are recent travelers. The emphasis varies from market to market depending on local need. The result is a global brand and business supporting the aim of students and young people traveling the world, to experience other cultures first hand to better contribute through their future lives. STA Travel is owned by Zürich-based corporation Diethelm Keller Holding Ltd..
