SAP QM is the quality management module of the SAP ERP software package from SAP AG. Quality manangement is integrated with other modules such as MM, PP, and SD. The QM module is comprised of the following components: quality planning, quality inspection, quality control, quality certificates, quality notifications and test equipment management.

Components

Quality Planning

The quality planning component is used to define master data in quality management.

Master data in quality management:

• inspection catalog
• master inspection characteristic
• inspection method
• sampling procedure
• dynamic modification rule
• inspection plan
• reference operation set
• material specification
• quality info record

Quality Inspection

The quality inspection component is used to perform inspection of materials.

Inspection can be triggered at a number of inspection origins:

• goods receipt from a purchase order
• goods issue
• inspection during production
• goods receipt from production
• other goods receipt
• audit
• stock transfer
• recurring inspection
• delivery to customer
• plant maintenance
• miscellaneous

Quality Control

The quality control component is used to: dynamically modify the inspection scope, manage control charts and evaluate inspections.

Quality Certificates

The quality certificates component is used to process both incoming and outgoing quality certificates.

Quality Notifications

The quality notifications component is used to process quality related problems. Notifications are used to process problems:

• complaint against a vendor
• internal problems
• complaint from a customer

Test Equipment Management

The test equipment management component is used to maintain test equipment data, plan and schedule calibrations.

Interfaces

The SAP QM application provides interfaces to exchange data with external systems.

Inspection Data Interface

The inspection data interface (QM-IDI) is used to exchange inspection data between the SAP QM application and external systems.

Statistical Data Interface

The statistical data interface (QM-STI) is used to connect the SAP QM application with external analysis systems.
