Roosevelt Institution
The Roosevelt Institution is a non-profit, non-partisan network of college campus-based think tanks. Individual collegiate chapters conduct research and write policy regarding various public issues. It the first student-run policy research group in the United States.[1][2] Roosevelt was founded following the 2004 Presidential Election at Stanford University and Yale University.[3] It is a counterpoint to the conservative Hoover Institution at Stanford.[4] StructureOn CampusEach individual chapter of the Roosevelt Institution consists of a number of policy centers, in which students interested in a given topic can join together and share research, ideas, and resources. Policy centers at each chapter are assisted by an administrative organization. Example set of policy centers (Brown University)
In WashingtonThe chapters are assisted by a small national staff which coordinates and promotes their activities and the Roosevelt publications. The staff, which grows during the summer, coordinates national events and serves to connect ideas to policy makers. Each summer, the Institution hosts its annual Policy Expo in Washington, D.C. The program features a variety of presentations from students who have published work in the 25 Ideas series and the Roosevelt Review, and is the launching ground for the Institution's policy agenda for the upcoming year. In addition, the Institution hosts a conference for incoming chapter leaders held in collaboration with the Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Institute at the FDR estate, Hyde Park, New York. Publications25 Ideas''25 Ideas'' is a set of 25 two-page policy proposals in three challenge areas. The most recent ideas publications were in the areas of Energy, Working Families, and Diversity in Higher Education. the three booklets are produced through the summer between academic school years. In the coming year, Roosevelt chapters will focus on three new topics, selected in a national conference:
The Roosevelt ReviewThe ''Roosevelt Review'' is Roosevelt's general policy journal. Unlike the 25 ideas series, very few proposals are published in the Review, and the papers go into much more detail. The Review is distributed nationally to government agencies as well as advocacy groups., and is published at the end of every summer. Review of Policy ResearchThe Roosevelt Institution and the Policy Studies Organization released a special issue of the ''Review of Policy Research'' with work from eight Roosevelt fellows. the issue was Roosevelt exclusive, and focused on poverty in the United States and in foreign countries. Internationalist MagazineThe ''Internationalist Magazine'' was started in 2004, but recently entered into a long term partnership with Roosevelt. It focuses on culture and politics around the globe, with a possible story examining micro-loans through a writer's journey to a country with micro-loans. The Internationalist is preparing to dramatically expand circulation. Advisory BoardsRoosevelt has a number of prominent individuals who have offered themselves as resources to the Institution.
