Performing arts center

A performing arts center, often abbreviated PAC, is a multi-use performance space that can be adapted for use by various types of the performing arts, including dance, music and theatre. The adaptability of performing arts centers differentiate them from stand-alone concert halls, opera houses or theatres.

However, many PACs contain performance halls designed for specific purposes such as symphonic music or chamber music or theatre, and all exist under one roof. An example of this type of PAC is the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. where four distinctive performance spaces exist.

Many performing arts centers also frequently rent their performance spaces to performing arts presenters or self-presenting performing arts groups. Examples of this practice are the Washington Performing Arts Society in Washington, D.C. renting venues in the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts or the Celebrity Series of Boston renting venues in Boston's Citi Performing Arts Center.
